Britain and Europe are shamefully weak, but the United States desperately needs their help, and can't possibly keep the Strait of Hormuz open without their help. Have I got that right?

@amuse @SafaiDarya What do you mean "we love our European friends"? Trump is a narcissistic bully that has turned the US admin into his reflection. There's no love there.

European countries must act far more cautiously in their approach toward their most important and powerful ally, the United States, especially when it comes to preserving the NATO alliance. The level of hostility that some left-wing parties harbor toward Donald Trump has reached a point where it is actively undermining NATO itself. A Europe that has always emphasized diplomacy, even with a despised and murderous regime like the Islamic Republic, is now turning against its own ally, the United States, and is no longer even willing to engage in diplomacy, instead constantly taking an oppositional stance. This is extremely dangerous for Europe’s security. The continent stands directly exposed to threats from its enemies, and now more than ever, the West depends on the strength and unity of NATO. #WeAreNato @NATO @natopa @USAmbNATO @DeKamerBE

@amuse @KHOU So, unlike, say, California, where our state government hobbles the efforts of our own state and local policing forces and forbids them to apply standards of co-operation and aid, Texas is allowing their own in-state safety and front-line aid personnel to DO THEIR DAMN JOBS?!?

Rep. Susie Lee, D-Nev., joined the race to the bottom today with a profane attack on the President for merely watching the arguments on birthright citizenship: "So f--king f--ked up. I’ll pray they f--k him to his face." It is not merely profanity but a pathology on the left...

At the end of the day, NATO has been dead for a long time. The truth is that Russia never needed to wonder if NATO members would come to each other's aid in the event of an invasion - it knew that any attack on Europe would result in the death of American troops. Spread across 200 installations in 19 countries America's sons and daughters served as a tripwire that made it clear to Putin that any attack on Europe was a declaration of war against the United States. That kept the peace. It is now time for Europe to step up and defend itself. x.com/amuse/status/2…

NATO will survive Trump and his administration. And what does not kill an alliance may yet strengthen it. Washington is relearning an elementary truth: without allies, the United States may still be effective, but it is less mighty. Alliances are not instruments of command. They require respect, consultation, and advance notice. Allies are not vassals; they have their own voters and interests. Those who ignore the theory of alliances usually get a brutal lesson in how alliances actually work. #WeareNATO

I asked Secretary Hegseth at today's press conference whether the United States was still committed to NATO's collective defense. He declined to say yes and responded that it was up to Trump. The American people send 100,000 of their sons and daughters to Europe each year to risk their lives defending the continent from Russia. The American taxpayers spend $20 billion a year for this privilege. Poland just demonstrated the biggest weakness of the NATO alliance - Article 6 allows any member to respond to aggression as they see fit. Turkey is under attack from Iran's ballistic missiles. It asked fellow NATO member, Poland, to loan it a single Patriot battery. Poland citing its own national defense refused. America stepped in and asked again. Poland refused. The fact is that 10,000 Americans are stationed within 50 miles of Russia's borders to make it clear to Putin that an attack on Poland is not just an attack on a NATO member, but an attack on American troops. This is the reason we have 100,000 troops spread across Europe. Putin has never had to wonder if America would come to Europe's aid in the event of war - he knew he would be attacking America on day one. NATO has never been the deterrent - it has always been America. Eisenhower warned that NATO was pointless if Europe didn't replace American troops within 10 years. Here we are 70+ years later and Europe still can't defend itself - it relies on American sons and daughters to risk their lives each day. I think Europe is making a mistake right now, but I think it might be the best thing to happen to BOTH American and Europe in the long run. Today Europe thinks of NATO is a service it receives, not a covenant it upholds. Poland just proved that. At the end of the day, Europe is more than capable of providing for its own defense. x.com/amuse/status/2…

I think a lot of folks don't realize how valuable America's alliance system has been to America. Trump has spent his 2nd term trashing it. Countries relied on us, and so were willing to do us favors. All of that is disappearing in the flames of Trump's ignorance and ego.

It is interesting how NATO's possible collapse is presented as solely Europe's problem, thereby justifying American pressure and threats on allies. In reality, a breakdown of NATO, an alliance of 32 members, would be a major strategic loss for the United States. The damage would not be limited to losing allies in Europe; as NATO gives Washington a large, institutionalised bloc of advanced economies and militaries that amplifies US power. If that structure unravelled, the US would lose a force multiplier at least across five main dimensions and would face : 1) harder military problems: The US would lose military access (the current situation with Spain, Italy and Poland gives a taste of what that would be like), and would lose interoperability and command advantages 2) higher budgetary burdens over time: removing the alliance architecture would force Washington to compensate for lost allied capability and lost access; allies would, in time, buy weapons from elsewhere; (it would be cheaper to repair the current rupture) 3) reduced geopolitical influence: US global credibility would be damaged far beyond Europe 4) greater economic exposure to European instability 5) weaker global deterrence against revisionist powers, which would not make the US homeland any safer The overall strategic impact would be severe, making the US considerably weaker diplomatically.

@GarryCheeseman @amuse @MarkSeddon1962 NATO is just another international organization suckling at the teat of the US taxpayers for ZERO fucking reason. The U.S. and others simply have material aid to Iranian revolutionaries looking to topple an oppressive regime. We gavecyyrmma boost. It's up to them to do the rest.
