It’ll be interesting to see how far Gold Coast will go in the 2026 Finals series. A prelim is the benchmark. If they fall short - it’s not out of the realm of possibility that they identify Zach Merrett as their trade target. They have multiple avenues in terms of picks & players to make a trade possible, & Zach is ostensibly a great move for the Suns. Even with a lack of time on ball this season, Merrett is still averaging 27 touches a game, placing him ahead of Suns skipper Noah Anderson and John Noble (26.3). Merrett would also be the at least the 4th-5th priority to shut down, meaning he can run wild without the burden of a heavy tag. The Suns struck gold by bringing in Christian Petracca & although they’re very different players, Merrett is a gun accumulator & the foot skills to match

The Ashes: huge crowds, huge TV ratings.
But T20 WC is only on streaming in Aus - ICC’s choice. Games often middle of the night. And many Aussies just love Tests. And in Feb ppl tend to focus on NRL/AFL.
So no-one watched.
But cricket IS popular here.

T20 World Cup is going on, but in Australia a country that has won 6 ODI World Cups and 1 T20 World Cup you barely see cricket on people’s TVs. In countries like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, cricket is treated like religion, mostly because unemployment is so high that people need an escape.
