Italy was not attacked. Yet Rome just announced it has supplied Gulf countries with air defense, anti-drone, and anti-missile systems including the SAMP/T, one of Europe’s most advanced surface-to-air batteries. The same SAMP/T Italy has been sending to Ukraine to stop Russian missiles. Italy has two of them. One is already in Ukraine. One was destroyed there. And now Italy is sending what it has left to the Gulf. Let that arithmetic sit for a moment. Here is the five-layer architecture of why Italy moved faster than any other European power. Layer one is blood. 2,000 Italian troops are stationed in Gulf bases right now. Iranian missiles have already struck a Kuwaiti runway hosting Italian military personnel. When your soldiers are sleeping 40 kilometers from incoming ballistic missiles, you do not wait for a UN resolution. You send the hardware. Layer two is bodies. Tens of thousands of Italian civilians live and work across the Gulf states, in energy companies, construction firms, diplomatic missions. If Gulf air defense collapses and evacuation becomes necessary, Italy needs a protected corridor out. SAMP/T buys that corridor. Every intercepted Iranian missile is a potential evacuation flight that still takes off. Layer three is heat. Italy imports 15 to 20% of its natural gas from the Gulf. The LNG terminals, pipelines, and loading infrastructure Iran has been systematically targeting are not abstract geopolitical assets. They are what keeps Italian factories running and Italian homes warm next winter. Italy is not defending the Gulf. It is defending its own energy supply from 3,000 kilometers away using weapons instead of prayers. Layer four is the Spanish mirror. When Spain told Trump no to base access and the NATO alliance fractured publicly, every European capital began calculating what refusal costs. Giorgia Meloni chose the opposite calculation. Italy supplying Gulf air defense while Spain deploys a single frigate to Cyprus for optics is the loudest possible statement about which European power wants the next decade of American defense contracts, intelligence sharing, and strategic relevance. This is not generosity. This is investment. Layer five is the wolf at the door nobody is naming. Italy has 28,000 sensitive targets under enhanced domestic surveillance right now per ANSA. Hezbollah has infrastructure across Europe. Iran has proxy networks with decades of history on Italian soil. Italy is not just protecting assets in the Gulf. It is managing the domestic threat calculus of a government that has read its own intelligence files and understood that the cost of staying out may be paid at home, not abroad. The SAMP/T is not a gift to the Gulf. It is Italy buying the right to control what comes next: the peace negotiations, the reconstruction contracts, the post-war energy architecture, the seat at the table when the map gets redrawn. Il primo punto l’ho chiarito davanti a voi in Parlamento e non avete proferito parola. Sapete benissimo che nessuno era stato informato come si è capito dalle stesse parole di Rubio oggi. Le procedure per la messa in sicurezza dei nostri soldati, così come i piani di intervento per eventuali evacuazioni sono predisposti e pronti da tempo e siamo (non solo io ma tutto il Ministero della Difesa!) informati in tempo reale di ogni evoluzione negativa o minaccia verso i nostri contingenti. Basta che lo chiediate a chi era in Unifil e negli altri teatri durante l’attacco israeliano della scorsa volta. Non penso di inviare nulla a nessuno, perché non sono io che invio sistemi come fossero miei come cercate di dire (come vi ho detto in Parlamento ieri) senza comunicazione alle Camere. Infatti è programmata per Giovedì un’informativa. I soldati in Libano, come in ogni altro teatro, sono la nostra priorità. E lo sapete benissimo. Su Muos e Sigonella ed altro pronto a rispondervi ma vorrei ricordarvi cosa vi ho già detto in Parlamento: L’utilizzo delle basi militari sul territorio nazionale, specie quelle USA, avviene in aderenza ad accordi quali il NATO SOFA del 1951, il Bilateral Infrastructure Agreement (BIA) del 1954 aggiornato nel 1973 e attualizzato con il Memorandum d’intesa Italia-USA del 1995 (Shell Agreement). Come si può facilmente notare, quindi, tali cornici giuridiche regolamentano queste attività da decenni e nessun Governo ha avvertito l’esigenza di modificarle. (É una risposta agli atti del Parlamento). Non ho problemi a rispondere a nessuno, nemmeno a chi cerca di distorcere la verità o fa finta di non sapere o non sa neppure ascoltare. L’ho fatto ogni volta e lo farò ancora. Lasciatemi dire però che questo modo di condurre la contrapposizione politica, falsificando ogni parola, é pericoloso per tutti noi in un periodo come quello che abbiamo di fronte. Sapete perfettamente, perché in privato me lo avete sempre riconosciuto, che in questi tre anni ho sempre informato di tutto e tenuto un atteggiamento di totale rispetto nei confronti delle opposizioni e del Parlamento. Cosa che continuerò a fare. Attaccare il Ministro della Difesa in un momento così per la storia di Dubai può essere anche ricompreso nella contrapposizione politica e compreso per le elezioni alle porte. Ma su cose serie come le altre su cui avete scritto falsità, sapendo che lo erano, non ha senso. I militari sono la prima priorità. Ogni aiuto passerà in parlamento. Su ogni domanda il Governo risponderà. Cerchiamo di distinguere i piani o metteremo in difficoltà la nazione.

Il Movimento 5 Stelle continua a chiedere le dimissioni del ministro della Difesa Guido Crosetto, che continua a rivelarsi inadeguato al suo ruolo. I suoi chiarimenti sulle sue ferie in zona di guerra sono contraddittori e grotteschi: questo scandalo non può essere archiviato come una faccenda personale perché rivela il grado di sottovalutazione del rischio da parte della persona che dovrebbe difendere la nazione, con l'effetto di non aver saputo garantire una tempestiva messa in sicurezza né ai nostri soldati né ai nostri 70mila concittadini turisti e residenti nell'area. Come se non bastasse, pensa ad inviare Samp/T ai ricchi sceicchi del Golfo sguarnendo le difese aeree nazionali, invece di pensare a proteggere i mille soldati italiani messi a rischio in Libano dalla nuova invasione israeliana. E non dice una parola sul coinvolgimento di Sigonella e del Muos a supporto delle operazioni militari Usa e i possibili rischi per il nostro Paese. Gli italiani non si sentono più al sicuro con questo ministro della Difesa.
