Somali Government Blocks UK-Bound Private Jet Carrying House of Lords Member from Landing in Hargeisa.
Somali authorities denied airspace access to a private jet carrying a member of the United Kingdom’s House of Lords that was attempting to land in Hargeisa, according to information obtained by Somali Eye.
Sources familiar with the matter told local media that the aircraft was turned away while en route and was forced to divert, initially heading toward Djibouti’s international airport. The plane was reportedly unable to secure landing clearance there before eventually being permitted to land in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The identity of the British official onboard has not yet been disclosed, and the purpose of the intended visit to Hargeisa remains unclear.
Somalia’s federal government has not issued an official statement regarding the incident, and authorities have yet to provide further details surrounding the decision to deny the aircraft access.
