i've been checked out of marvel since Loki. besides fantastic four, what do i need to watch, if anything, that has direct buildup to Dr. Doom? not this story, i'm talking a real foreshadowing to the character

@whatadyke_ I think this is over-simplifying their relationship. I think Helen absolutely believes Carol is capable of greatness in her writing but is just too afraid to take that leap.

If a game development studio claims that it uses “craft coding” or that there is no AI involved in making its games, there is a strong chance that they are lying. I’m coming back from a gamedev event where I hosted a panel on the use of agentic AI in game development. Not a single person said that they were not using AI. Across the entire event, we identified only around four artists who openly opposed the use of AI. They were actively looking for work.

@maxarus @Jonathan_Blow @Reply_Addict It is a deeply foundational and architectural technical problem with how the engine is designed and implemented. Changing it would change entire production pipelines and take a very long time, making it a dicey business decision (but a great game design decision)

People still don’t get it. Bethesda’s object permanence is what makes their worlds feel alive and reactive. You can drop items anywhere, build crazy cheese wheel shrines, leave the world in whatever chaotic state you want… and it stays that way. No other game (Cyberpunk included) has fully captured that level of true persistence without compromises. Loading screens exist for a real technical reason here .. they let the game actually remember your impact on the world. I’d rather quick loads than losing that immersion any day. The trade-off is worth it.
Synth Potato🥔@SynthPotato

The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 are confirmed to be running on the Creation Engine This means they will very likely both still require loading screens when entering Interiors. I think this is one of the biggest weaknesses of Bethesda games, it really does feel outdated…

@maxarus @Jonathan_Blow @Reply_Addict Because its a hard problem to solve when you're working with existing tech that uses loading screens as a barrier to changing scenes. The hardware is more than capable. Like most perf things today its deemed not worth the investment.

@Reply_Addict There's no reason that you need loading screens to do this on modern computers.

I always remember the scene from Interstellar where, near the end of the film, Cooper comes back and is reunited with his now aged daughter in the hospital where she is dying. I think that scene, FAR more than any other, revealed Nolan's shortcomings as a human being. She is surrounded by family, presumably Cooper's grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom would have grown up hearing about her father, who had managed to do the impossible and harness gravity itself to send the much-needed information that would make their survival possible. Rather than be amazed and loving and happy to see him, they all act like complete strangers and leave without so much as glancing at him. Murph, his daughter, who had spent her whole life working in unknowing collaboration with her father, whom she has now known for decades to have not deserted or failed her, barely has thirty seconds to spare for him, and essentially shoves him out the door to go hook up with spacebabe on the planet they're headed toward. ...and he goes, leaving this huge family he takes no time to meet or get to know, to romance a woman whom he's known (from his perspective) an extremely short time, and until now has had very few seeming indications of romantic interest that Murph just seems to "know" psychically. This is awful writing. This is awful characterization. This is an inability to allow for basic human drives.

Christopher Nolan prints his scripts on red paper to make them much harder to photocopy or copy. Just one of the many ways he keeps his films under wraps.

There needs to be a study why smart, talented people go absolutely off the fucking rails into insane conspiracy, because he was not always like this. He needs to believe he is so smart that he understands the "real conspiracy" while the rest of us our blind. It's sad.

Tucker Carlson interviewed Roger Waters and it’s as bonkers as you’d expect. Here Waters suggests that Israel did 911 because “every single physicist in the world” agree that planes wouldn’t bring down the towers. Antisemitic madness.

This is the reason why Doom: The Dark Ages flopped. Doom is not about the story. Doom plot should fit into a post card that says "huge ass dude breaks demons faces for 15 levels, and then he kills a huge ass fucking demon while metal music is playing. The End". Instead, they went for some biblical lore bullshit, and to add an insult to an injury, the main villain is a fucking millennial chungus instead of some big ass scary demon. There is a famous story that Mark Hamill retells every time, how Harrison Ford said to him that a little story discontinuity doesn't matter for Star Wars, and if viewers notice it - they have much bigger problems. This is exactly the same deal. When you see people discussing a plot of a Doom game - you know something went terribly wrong.
Gene Park, Oppaheimer@GenePark

the story in Dark Ages Revelations is great, in fact it might be one of the most important Doom stories told yet. i can't recommend it enough. i'm still not quite done with it (it has a post game!) but it's already one of the best Doom chapters ever made

Meta is removing Instagram’s latest AI feature following a negative response from users: “Earlier this week, we announced that one way for people to generate images in Meta AI is by @-mentioning public Instagram accounts that they want to reference. Our intent was to provide a useful creative tool and to give people control over whether their public content could be referenced in this way. We've heard the feedback that this feature missed the mark, so it's no longer available.”
