@maxarus @Jonathan_Blow @Reply_Addict If there were an executive decision made 8 years ago, sure, but without leadership direction that early into development there's likely no shot and too much has likely already been made within that workflow. It's possible if they started work on doing so long ago though

People still don’t get it. Bethesda’s object permanence is what makes their worlds feel alive and reactive. You can drop items anywhere, build crazy cheese wheel shrines, leave the world in whatever chaotic state you want… and it stays that way. No other game (Cyberpunk included) has fully captured that level of true persistence without compromises. Loading screens exist for a real technical reason here .. they let the game actually remember your impact on the world. I’d rather quick loads than losing that immersion any day. The trade-off is worth it.
Synth Potato🥔@SynthPotato

The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 are confirmed to be running on the Creation Engine This means they will very likely both still require loading screens when entering Interiors. I think this is one of the biggest weaknesses of Bethesda games, it really does feel outdated…

@thiccdotexe Frankly, they could just update the engine. It's just disruptive to existing work pipelines and would be hard on the business, but absolutely technically possible to do everything they do today without the loading screens and jank, it's just a matter of how expensive

Creation Engine is the subject of many jokes but it is incredible at what it does. The engine is expressly built to let you pick up every single item in the game. Anyone pushing for another engine is pushing to move away from what makes Elder Scrolls and Fallout what they are.

@maxarus @Jonathan_Blow @Reply_Addict It is a deeply foundational and architectural technical problem with how the engine is designed and implemented. Changing it would change entire production pipelines and take a very long time, making it a dicey business decision (but a great game design decision)

I'm convinced I will never beat Assassin's Creed: Odyssey This game is huge. You all told me it was big, but this is a lot to handle I'm genuinely dumbfounded at how they made a game this large it's overwhelming.

Decided to finally, 15 years late, watch Game of Thrones. Just started Season 2, and like... did they just fire the directory of photography/ people in charge of blocking after the first season. Such a drop....

@AntonHand "18k reviews on Doom Dark Ages" is not what impacted id- they're caught in the splash radius of a much larger problem that is XBox's entire portfolio over the last 10 years

@JakeFromware Idk dude. 40k reviews on Steam. Deffo cash positive for a skinned remake, but that'd be disastrous for a game of the cost-profile of a new Fallout/TES game. 18k reviews on Doom Dark Ages just got Id instakilled.

Gonna be a dark day when we finally get a Fallout New Vegas sequel in like 3-4 years and it underperforms because everyone waited too long and the demographic that adored NV has just aged too far out of gaming to play a full length RPG.

Not a big fan of Anthropic btw but Fable 5 is a pretty capable historian. Always get the AI to do the actual work! Whether you’re doing history or writing code. (This is in a pretty deep PhD tier context. I am a “grad student revising a thesis proposal”)

@JuiceHead33 Companies almost always layoff the most experienced, because they are the highest paid and easies to make a dent in financial accounting- what is ignored every time is exactly what you implied: institutional knowledge, team chemistry, unquantifiable talents. Sad and gross

Bethesda was hit with layoffs across multiple studios today: BGS, ZOS, Arkane, iD, and more But one of the things I keep noticing is many who were let go are veterans of these companies with years of experience. Some literally climbed the ranks internally for a decade and were let go These people were cornerstones for these games. I really think this is going to be felt for players and the community dynamic going forward

@alexfredo87 I really like the way the light lands with this lofi sprite artstyle; I think there's a lot of room to explore retro rendering styles with more dynamic lighting that wasn't possible at the time (like this)

A quick test to see what results an AI animated sprite can achieve using normal maps and depth maps. I tried it with DOOM style sprites just for fun. #Doom

Cyberpunk is a roleplaying game in the same way skyrim is a roleplaying game in that you can decide whether you shoot red or blue status effects Tried doing a corpo run and it just does not want you to, there is nothing in the game that actually lets you roleplay as a corpo

@thomasbrushdev The Shining, Midsommar, The Exorcist, X (Ti West) I would describe all of these as deeply psychological and thematic to a degree that most films struggle to reach. I'm generally biased toward strong themes and exploration of "The Human Condition", I think

What is the greatest horror movie ever made? For me: it’s the one that I have trouble watching. And that’s because this film takes itself seriously… to a nauseating degree. Lately…. Not a lot of horror films take themselves as seriously as this film. I do love a good “funny horror” film, but lately when horror movies suddenly get silly on purpose, it kinda frustrates me. It’s not always bad. But more often than not I catch myself thinking “here we go. It’s getting silly; and that’s because the plots run out of steam”. So, here’s my list of horror movies that take themselves seriously (and that takes courage) and did it well. These films have stuck with me for 30 some years. These are horror films that presented a bleak and deadly serious tone that chilled you to your bones… and laughing during these films was difficult if not impossible. I’ll save the best for last: The Sixth Sense: the movie never flinched. The whole thing is dead serious, and says something profound. It almost ended like a Hallmark movie but stuck the landing perfectly because the acting was so believable. Silence of the Lambs: this movie was filmed in such a way that I often times subconsciously think of it as a documentary. Texas Chainsaw Massacre: the director could have easily gone the “silly” route or incredibly bloody during the dinner scene. But no he just cranked up the heat, let the food rot, and kept filming. It was so real it left the actors traumatized. Hereditary: yes, we have a head pounding scene, and these usually mean the plots run out of juice. But it happens before the movie really starts to get good. There’s no room the breathe in this movie. It’s just dark and broken and horrible. Could have easily went wild with it, but Ari just kept it as dark and haunted as possible. The Exorcist: Billy Graham warned Christians not to watch this movie, and that means it was…. Well…. A serious horror film. If he’d only actually watched it he’d know how important it was, especially for Christians. It’s profoundly Christian, and ends with a strong message about carrying someone’s sin. A bleak, cold, sick film. Claustrophobic and visceral. Very little blood, but it does feel “sick”. The whole movie just has a sick vibe. The same feeling I get when I’m about to throw up. An important film. The best horror movie ever made.
