They did, and it almost destroyed their country. The difference is that they realized the mistake quickly and abolished it, whereas we have kept it for over 30 years. DEI by definition does not provide equal opportunity. It is instead a futile effort to enforce a communist ideal of equal outcome. We too need to abolish our own DEI policies (B-BBEE) to have any chance at prosperity. You're right in that it's extremely difficult for an economy to thrive while ~2/3 of the population is impoverished, and only ~15% of it is productive enough to pay income tax. A govt cannot help the poor if it has no money. The only way out of this mess is to make sure that we incentivise the most productive members of society to build and grow in a free market, regardless of who they are, and elect a govt that will raise the floor of the entire country instead of lining its own pockets. grok.com/share/bGVnYWN5…
