@ryolu_ @ConanChou How is this different from the Codex app or a conductor? What do you guys bring to the table here?

my cursor experience has declined since a couple of weeks or a month ago. 1. it first starts to consume a lot of power, 2. then it starts to reload the editor and plugins every couple of minutes, 3. it also starts to show a weird white bar at the left sidebar. #2 is particularly annoying, because every reload resets the state of the left sidebar (the github PR view). i then need to manually click them to unfold. in the last 12 hour activity monitor screenshot, this is already me using iterm2 for most of the time. in fact i only opened cursor for a few hours during the period. coz nowadays i would only need it for code review and quick chats with pieces of code. earlier this week, i migrated from zed + cursor back to nvim + cursor. during that time, i actually made (with ai) the nvim experience so good that i don’t even need to switch out that often. i think it’s probably a good time to just use nvim. this morning i’ve also tried the same plugin setup in vscode. it’s pretty good compared to cursor. especially their ai chat panel. every coding agent is treated as a first-class citizen, contrasting with cursor, they prioritize the cursor experience, so any third-party agents don’t even have a good UI presence. i also think the UX of cursor is getting worse. just a few examples: - the top-right switches are getting better than a couple of months ago, but still confusing - the chat panel “auto” switch is so redundant. to switch from auto to a specific model, you need to do 3 clicks. what’s wrong with a normal dropdown list? i know engineering tools are hard. i think they did really well last year, so i have high hopes for the team. plus i have a friend there, so i really want to support them. but for now, i had to step away for a bit for the sake of my own productivity.

@bruvimtired Why is this called Glass? Why is this just a copy of the Codex app or Conductor? What are their designers doing? So many questions.

Suddenly, roughly $67 billion invested in supporting Ukraine over those years doesn’t seem like such a bad investment, especially considering all the money saved by leveraging Ukraine’s experience, war data, and drone capabilities, which can now save hundreds of billions of dollars.

@linear I just had a discussion with a founder about using digital islands in design versus a plain-text/separators approach. He was using the previous Linear design as support for his argument, so your update came just in time 😆

Internally, this UI refresh wasn't straight forward as a project. It started with me disliking consistency problems and lack of visual queues on what you're looking at in Linear. A small team was formed and started to explore a vast space of problems. Too vast in hindsight, and good changes were intermingled with controversial changes. At some point we had to split out the good parts and hand the rest of the ideas to a new team that would have a more tight focus on "just a visual refresh" and not changing the information architecture. Sometimes you need a bit of a mess in order to clean up your mess.

The Linear interface refresh is all about pruning the edges: less visual noise, clearer structure, and a calmer UI. We wrote about the thinking, trade-offs, and tools behind it. → linear.app/now/behind-the…

Designers. For those of you going with Nano texture display have you switched back to glossy? I am thinking about going from 15" MacBook Air to M5 MacBook Pro 14" with Nano Texture Display.

@bcherny Does it degrade the model's performance like Sonnet 1m context version did according to @theo? It was pretty much a different model specifically trained for large context, which made it different in use?

@sundarpichai AI should be able to adjust the path; right now, it can change basic settings like avoid tolls, but it needs more customization.

We’re bringing new capabilities powered by Gemini models to @googlemaps. With Ask Maps, get answers to complex questions about any place you want. For example it can help with complex requests like "Find me the best 3-hour family hikes in the Grand Tetons and a spot for a packed lunch”. Will try this next time I'm there:) Rolling out now in the US and India.

Ukraine opens battlefield data to train AI models for autonomous systems — first in the world 🤘 Millions of annotated combat frames from thousands of missions are now available for partners to train AI. This creates a new win-win cooperation model: partners refine their technologies with unique data, while Ukraine scales frontline capabilities. Better data → smarter drones → faster decisions on the battlefield. The future of war is autonomous.
