After a full public hearing, the Medical Practitioners Tribunal found every allegation unproven. The GMC is now asking the High Court to review the decision. This case raises a question of fundamental importance for doctors and other regulated professions: When an independent specialist tribunal has heard all the evidence and found the allegations not proved, in what circumstances is it lawful for the regulator to overturn that decision?
