Mind blown 🤯 Some smartphones sold in mainland China (like certain OPPO models) can read MIFARE Classic cards, crack the keys in seconds, store them, and then fully emulate the card directly on the phone. No extra hardware. Just the phone. Access control, transit cards, hotel keys… game over. Huge thanks to Ian for showing me this in person. Really eye-opening how far NFC capabilities have gone in some regions. Who else has seen this in the wild? #NFC #MIFARE #TechSecurity #oppo

This snack was named after a legendary late foreign cricketer as the owner in Mumbai was a fan after watching him in India. Guess who?

Himachal govt installs a charging point in Manali for tourists to charge phones and gadgets, and within hours people turn it into a dustbin. No Swachh Bharat or any scheme can fix this nation, only an iron fist policy can bring change.

@rosharma08 The most expensive super premium 2bhk at that time was at Hiranandani for Rs 30 lakh. Almost everywhere else in Andheri you could get a 2bhk for Rs 20l after the 1998 crash

Back in 2000, I wrote a personal finance piece estimating a 30-year-old would need Rs 1 crore at retirement. It predicted milk at Rs 75/litre when a 2BHK in Andheri was under Rs 20 lakh. The Rs 1 cr goal was widely mocked then.

💪 The Ultimate Flex Once a year for his entire adult life, my dad would go to Kmart and buy seven pairs of Rustler brand blue jeans—the kind of denim that takes months to break in. And every day—in every season—he wore those blue jeans with cowboy boots, a pearl-snap western shirt, and a trucker cap. Dad looked like a bumpkin, thoroughly unimpressive in appearance. The last guy you’d expect to have a PhD in physics. As a teen, I often wished he was “cool” like other dads, with their executive haircuts, dapper clothing, and high-dollar watches. But over time I noticed something… In a room full of elites—business owners, professors, doctors—Dad was the one who held court. Beneath his unassuming exterior was a brilliant mind. He was a deep thinker, gifted writer, and captivating storyteller. Dad was a paradox: Zero style, all substance. He was the real deal and people were drawn to that. How do you become a person of substance—the type of person people admire and listen to intently? —Master a craft —Read and write —Limit bad habits —Do unusual things —Embody discipline —Never engage in gossip —Don’t play childish games —Speak the unvarnished truth —Be comfortable in your own skin The ultimate flex is... not flexing at all. It's letting your substance do the talking.

Three reasons why you will need an absurdly large corpus after 30 years. 1. Govt borrowing because of fiscal deficit needs inflation to make debt sustainable 2. Viksit Bharat will need low interest rates (goi bonds yielded 14% in '97) 3. Avg life expectancy will cross 85

Indian Overseas Bank
Update - Reported Incident at Odisha Grameen Bank of claimant bringing sister’s skeleton for death claim process. We would like to submit that, today the Government Authorities have issued the Death Certificate and Legal Heir Certificate. Immediately on receipt of these documents, Bank has settled the claim amount of ₹19,402 in the name of three legal heirs and money handed over to them, in accordance with established norms. The reports circulating on various social media platforms alleging that Mr. Jitu Munda carried the mortal remains of his sister to a bank branch for withdrawal from her account, purportedly due to a demand by bank officials for the physical presence of the deceased for claim settlement, are incorrect and not based on facts. We have already issued a clarification note in our social media platform clarifying the facts that the individual was at inebriated state and incident has happened due to a lack of awareness of the claim settlement process and the individual’s unwillingness to accept the procedures explained by the Branch Manager. Our sponsored Regional Rural Bank, Odisha Grameen Bank remain dedicated to serving customers with responsibility, transparency, and care. #Keonjhar @DFS_India @RBI

Not a shower. That’s Netaji in the court of King Neptune at a ‘Crossing the line’ ceremony when crossing the equator, most likely here, off W Africa. The Kriegsmarine, like all other navies had elaborate crossing the line ceremonies where ‘pollywogs’ became ‘shellbacks’. This other picture fm the same ceremony on the U-180, confirms it. King Neptune’s Randy courtiers are seen here. The ceremony was a brief humorous interlude during the most fascinating submarine voyage of WW2, and the only sub-to-sub transfer of passengers. Interestingly, Netaji might be the first Indian to undergo this ritual onboard a submarine- don’t know of Indian sub crews on Allied boats. (Unlikely). @indiannavy

People dunking on the Godrej logo change do have a point. The new logo looks tasteless, and lacking character.. though I'd imagine this switch is linked to the group's recent internal reorganization (not driven by branding or aesthetics). I started my career with Godrej & Boyce.. as an engineer in their Material Handling Division (forklift trucks biz). Have fond memories... While on logo changes, I've worked in another Indian major where the logo change was highly unpopular - Asian Paints. Their Gattu logo, immortalized by R K Laxman was everyone's darling, only to get replaced by the current (somewhat placid) logo back in 2000s. No social media bk then, but remember the all around shock at the time. The avg consumer reacts largely to the changed visual imagery, but guess they miss the nuances that typically force marketing depts to switch popular historical logos - company reorgs, international expansion, visual simplification,  digital friendliness, need to iconize (think mobile screens) etc.

Everyone’s told plastic pollution is a “global” problem… But the data say something very different. Roughly 90–95% of ocean plastic comes from a handful of rivers... mostly in Asia and Africa. The Yangtze. Ganges. Mekong. Nile. Niger. Not your grocery bag in Colorado. Not your straw in D.C. A small number of poorly managed waste systems are doing the overwhelming majority of the damage. The UN isn’t structuring this like a solvable engineering problem... it’s structuring it like a permanent global revenue stream. Because if you solve it quickly and directly… there’s no need for decades of committees, funding mechanisms, and “frameworks.”

These two Iraqi 747s have been baking in the Tunisian desert for over 35 years and they still look wild from above. YI-AGP (747-200C) and YI-ALM (747SP) were flown to Tozeur-Nefta Airport right before the 1991 Gulf War to keep them safe from bombing. Saddam’s government parked them there, painted them plain white, and basically left them. The paint is peeling now, showing the old green Iraqi livery underneath. YI-ALM was Saddam’s personal VIP jet, the smaller SP version. YI-AGP was a regular passenger bird with 45 first class and 285 economy seats. Both have been sitting there ever since, caught up in legal and money disputes involving Iraq, Tunisia, Kuwait, and the UN. There were auction attempts a few years ago, but they’re still there rotting away. Crazy to think these massive jets have been abandoned in the sand for decades.
