The Last Gospel doesn't emphasize the Mass as sacrifice. It was a private thanksgiving (oft recited processing back to the sacristy, as in Sarum), but partially apotropaic.
All medieval rites lacked the Last Gospel as it is now. The Dominican Rite only added it in the 1600s.

Most Catholics are unaware that for centuries before the Novus Ordo was instituted, Mass ended with a reading of the Prologue of Saint John. The reason for this particular passage from the Gospels is its cosmic significance, which was deemed extremely suitable for the nature of the Mass until the 1960 when the priority became to emphasise the Mass as a meeting of the Christian community rather than the sacrifice of Christ on the altar.

The fact remains that it’s often easier to get approval for a TLM than for a regular parish to celebrate one NO Mass ad orientem in Latin every Sunday.

Well, well, well: Andrea Grillo, described as the "mind behind TC", has come up with what he calls "a different, but realistic proposal" for liturgical peace: just make the Novus Ordo look as much like the TLM as possible. Only a few decades late to the party...! 😅

Someone discovering for the first time that apex courts can depart from their own precedents 🙄And this latest decision will only be "correct" until a future court overrules it.
PS: Lords Sumption, Kerr and Neuberger all agreed with Lady Hale's judgment

Well. Something I've been waiting for for a very long time happened today. The Supreme Court overturned as incorrect a decision authored by Lady Hale (Cheshire West, the exact situation in question is not material for my purposes). Thus proving that a) the supposed expert justices of our apex court are actually prone to serious error and b) that when there is a will stupid decisions can be overturned. Of course, I doubt Lady Hale - and the other judges in the majority in 2014 will apologise for their callous refusal to make a correct decision and the huge costs this has likely caused. That would be the honourable thing to do - and they are all supposedly Right Honourable........

@mcelderrytruth @tc1415 Ugh - absolute legal positivism is so tedious and reductive - and unprincipled. After all, if taken at face value, then there is no principled reason e.g. why the apex court should not be elected; or to have a court at all, rather than some other sort of determining body.

@tc1415 The law is just what an apex court says it is - there is no such thing as absolute correctness in the law. You're chasing a mirage.

@SCP_Hughes @jo3hill @ezraklein There's some prima facie double-counting here though - the Future Homes Standard is part of the Building Regs; complying with the Building Regs will determine elements of the materials used; and does "taxes" include NI, which presumably also contributes to labour costs?

We see here an example of what @jo3hill calls 'everythingism' or @ezraklein 'everything-bagel liberalism' – nice-sounding obligations have been piled on housebuilders until the accumulated weight has crushed the sector, resulting in rising homelessness and housing poverty.

@mbb_brett Absolutely. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It is not intuitive to think the new 'Business and Property Division' doesn't include complex commercial or regular Landlord and Tenant disputes. In practice I believe these changes make the law more impenetrable to lay people.

@TonyDowson5 Many of the judges (especially the senior ones) hate the RCJ and regularly moan about it - they would much rather be in an anonymous office-type building which could be a drs surgery or an office block.

They'll replace the RCJ with steel and glass too.

There needs to be the campaign of all campaigns to stop this happening. For one, you could get exactly the same thing and keep the historic name! (also, as I keep having to remind everyone, Chancery is the senior division!)
