Over the last five years, 154 children have died while under the care of Maine DHHS. That's more than the previous 14 years combined. One bipartisan solution proposed was to transfer the Office of Child and Family Services out from under DHHS. This was rejected in the House. A particularly ghoulish moment stood out in the hearing. After Rep. Lyman highlighted the obvious problems, Dem Rep. Michele Meyer accused her of trying to make political hay out of dead kids. Watch for yourself below:
