If you thought about that, you might decide that some of us aren't deserving of the judgements you place on us. And you might be able to leave the gays and lesbians to live our own lives.

For every older brother a male has from the same mother his probability of being gay increases. This is thought to be due to a trace in their moms immune system that governs hormone effects on the brain. But note: it’s a reflection of more not less testosterone exposure in utero.

I just have at least one counter example to the person I was replying to, and I surmised a possible biological connection that’s talked about a lot in neurodivergent spaces.

I've noticed, completely subjectively, that having a self-absorbed mother whose shadow they thought, at least during their developmental years, they had no hope of getting out from under may also contribute. For example, the daughters of Meryl Streep, Cher, Lana Turner, Cybil Shepherd, Gloria Estefan, Faith Hill, and Marie Osborn all claim a 'lesbian' identity. Some of those may be the nature of the culture they were brought up in, but Cher's daughter is certainly a study.

@dcblerg2015 @Katy_Faust @hubermanlab I’ve had the same experience… it’s the same underlying factors that led to their lifestyle. Likewise, every lesbian I’ve ever spoken with (garnering the honest truth about their past) has been physically/mentally or sexually abused. Every time.

@dcblerg2015 @Katy_Faust @hubermanlab I think this is probably often the case but, not exclusively. I know at least one man w/ SSA who had no trauma, had a present father and reasonable mother, and isn't the last boy born. If there is a biological factor I think it probably relates to the autism spectrum.

@Katy_Faust @hubermanlab Things you NEED to be true and things that are actually true are very different. The fact is, nobody knows. It's a guess. The only salient fact here is that human phenotypes and human behavior vary, and because you are a deeply broken human being, you can't deal with it.

You suggest that this has something to do with biology. It's much more likely that it is nurture. It's always the last boy, right? Which suggests that mom is probably coddling him and doesn't want to let him grow up. He has an over identification with his female parent.
Despite searching and hoping and praying for a gay gene, none has been found. Same with in utero factors.
Same sex attraction is not necessarily a choice, but it is not inborn.

HB 1800 has passed the PA House, advancing an effort led by House Democrats to redefine marriage in Pennsylvania law. This legislation removes the historic understanding of marriage as the union of one man and one woman from state statute. This is not just symbolic. Laws teach, shape culture, and carry consequences. This change reflects a deeper shift away from a view of marriage rooted in family formation and the well-being of children. Just as concerning, HB 1800 offers no meaningful protections for those who continue to hold to this longstanding understanding of marriage — including faith-based adoption agencies, religious schools, charities, and everyday citizens. Across the country, similar legal changes have led to real consequences for people of faith. Pennsylvanians deserve laws that respect both truth and the freedom to live according to deeply held convictions. The legislation now moves to the PA Senate, where thankfully the Senate leadership is not expected to take it up.

@J_K_Wood U clearly don’t get gay history/culture. When u could be beaten, killed, imprisoned 4 being gay, secrecy = riskier sex w strangers. This influenced gay culture but also men experience spontaneous attraction vs. responsive more than women & there’s straight men with the same #’s..

I refuse to believe that most Americans can not read at a 7th grade level If this is “true” then it means we are simply measuring literacy incorrectly; 163M Americans are actively employed Can your 6th grader read an employment contract? Read heavy machinery instructions?

@ThemBeforeUs Honestly I think all your arguments reduce down to either 'natural law' or 'trust us, it's harmful.' They don't wash. You're pulling on one thread -- gay marriage -- in an incredibly complex issue. I don't think it's because you care about children.
