@mmalex @wren6991 The thing that happens is that you get double clocking because of noisy edges. So lowering the frequency makes no difference. You need to show the edges, hence the series resistor.

@wren6991 maybe ill just try fatter traces and a 4 layer board next time. this is 2 layer so maybe gnd is less chonky than it could be. but that feels like blind fud. with ‘adapter speed 1’ surely swd stops being a high speed interface and could run over a potato link?

@wren6991 sorry cheeky rp2040 question again :) on a run of 5 boards, SWD fails with DAP Init failed on 4/5. fine on 1/5. internet tells me dodgy wires. using picoprobe + supplied 3pin ribbon JST connectors; lowering adaptor speed doesnt help. at the connector, the clock and data

I need your help! GOC is a comparator. Resistors and caps are black and yellow. But the component inside the red rectangle is light grayish. What it could be? In the schematic, it's parallel with a resistor. I'd expect the output of this circuit to go to an FPGA. (See ALT!)

New PhD thesis just publicly dropped (see if you can spot the pun). If you've always wondered about DNA data storage but don't know much about it, pages 1-4 might be helpful! digital.lib.washington.edu/researchworks/…

@EdmondsPolice Hey I just watched three cars slide down the hill at Walnut and 9th after driving up it. There's a closure sign at the top, but not at the bottom. It seems like it would be good to add some closure signs at the bottom...

Given a) the display of impulsive narcissism lately, b) he continues to control tesla, c) teslas remain tightly controlled by the company after purchase via software patches, and d) there are solid EV competitors now...it's hard to imagine why anyone would buy a Tesla today?

Wild. A shocking level of insecurity on display here. At least 23% of the accounts I follow here will be suspended based on this policy -- that's how many have mastodon profiles in their bio.

@xa329 @matthewvenn I did it during my undergrad in 2005 as well, via MOSIS. It's not liked it has been unavailable?

@matthewvenn That is shabby. My British university had standard cell CAD tools and a commercial partner that would include small designs on some silicon at an affordable cost - in the mid 80s!

"It’s rare for students, especially undergrads, to have an opportunity to work on an actual tapeout and produce manufactured chips." Something that's growing more and more accessible! I predict within a few years all VLSI undergrads get to do a tapeout.

@BrentiumBrent I have no affection for twitter, but thought that all the doomsday predictions were way overblown. But it sounds like this transition has gone worse than I thought plausible... I wish there was a market price for twitter stock to observe 🍿

Does anyone else get spam / scam calls that just go straight to voicemail? I get the missed call notification on my phone, but the phone does not ring at all. Is there some trickery to make a call work this way?

@tom_verbeure Can confirm that bringing up your own chip is in fact a thrill. I got to do it in undergrad, and the day it came in my partner and I dropped everything to wire it up (it worked!). MOSIS has been doing this for free (or maybe my school paid a fee?) for a while.

Tinytapeout imposes some significant technical limitations, but with a cost this low, engineering schools should jump on the opportunity to give every student the thrill of bringing up their own chip. It’s such a game changer.

During @matthewvenn’s 2 hour #tinytapeout workshop at @hackaday #Supercon, I went from a blank page to a 130nm tape-out ready GDS2 file for my custom piece of logic. Production cost: $125, or even lower if you can share a PCB with others!
