We need to create schools that are organized to meet the needs of the students they serve. We need to stop expecting students to adjust the schools, and if they can't - stop blaming and pathologizing them - instead, focus on engagement and nurturing the love of learning in them.

THIS IS EQUITY 🔥. As a teacher of children with no prior formal schooling, time will & must be individualized and variable, while mastery learning and high expectations must be fixed. What if we redesigned the whole education system this way? ⚖️ @OCDSB @CarletonHeights @skill24

@chpacella @MrAhmednurAli @ArielTroster One of my favourite first snow stories ever from my students was on the same day her family arrived in Ottawa at the airport and was brought to their apartment, her and her brothers went sliding on the hill behind the buildings on cardboard boxes.

@MrAhmednurAli @ArielTroster As a teacher, experiencing the first snowfall with my new Canadian students is amazing. It's a stop everything moment, and just marvel at the little white flakes. It's magical and almost makes up for the next five months of it. 😉

In 2.5 yrs, she has grown by 5 grade levels in reading & 6 in numeracy🤯. But that's not what's most special. This young leader is already making the🌍around her a better place by helping others be & feel more successful. She is integrity & empathy in human form. @OCDSB

@katiecanoes So identify with all of those feelings. Emotions have been high the last couple weeks, especially for our kids transitioning to a new school for Grade 7 😢. Definitely going to take a while to begin to decompress and process everything. What a blessing it will be back in school.

Last morning with my Ss in #ELD. I don't even have the words to describe this unusual year. It will take me some time to process. So relieved and exhausted. Also completely emotional.

3 years ago, she got the opportunity to go to school for the first time and began learning to read and write. This week she is using words like alveoli and capillaries in her writing. 👏 @CarletonHeights @OCDSB @skill24 @naya_m72
