I tend to take an expansive view of what qualifies someone as a New Yorker but I must draw the line at someone who was born in, raised in, raised their family in, entrapped their brother-in-law w a prostitute in, and was duly convicted in a federal court located in New Jersey.

I moved from New Jersey where I grew up to Northern California. In addition to the weather which is 65 and sunny almost every day, there are no bugs which is highly underrated. There’s no comparison.

The New York Times and Washington Post are reporting one thing about Trump in Iran, and the Wall Street Journal another. According to the WSJ , he's in "revenge mode," he called the Iranian leadership "scum" and "crazy." Meanwhile, the WashPo is reporting that "Trump swings back toward diplomacy in escalating war with Iran" the same day, and Trump himself said publicly that Tehran is getting "more serious" in talks. All this shows is that he is in way over his head. Has no idea where to go from here, and is only escalating because he does not have a better option.

We are supposedly at war to stop Iran from enriching the uranium we “obliterated” over a year ago. Yesterday we signed a deal to help Saudi Arabia enrich uranium. The first time the United States has ever helped another country enrich uranium on foreign soil. The Saudis refused the inspection protocol 140 other countries accept. Too intrusive, they said. Trump agreed. He signed a national security waiver to get around the rule. The Saudis paid Kushner $100 million. They put $2 billion into his firm. They put another $6 billion into LIV Golf, which pays Trump properties to host its tournaments. They signed ten billion dollars in Trump-branded real estate deals in Jeddah and Riyadh. All in just the last few years. But sure. My paintings.

Marco Rubio holds the office designed to produce agreements with Iran, and he has spent his career arguing that no agreement with Iran is possible. That is not a tension the State Department can manage; it is a conflict of interest at the top of American diplomacy. He also holds a second office. Since May 2025 he has served simultaneously as Secretary of State and acting National Security Advisor. A conflict of interest at the head of American diplomacy is one problem. The same conflict standing at the gate of the President's national security process is another. His record is not ambiguous. Rubio opposed the JCPOA, built his foreign-policy identity on maximum pressure, and describes the Iranian government in terms that foreclose settlement by definition. The funding record runs parallel: for the 2019–2024 cycle, Pro-Israel America PAC was his single largest contributor, and tallies of his Senate career put receipts from pro-Israel groups above one million dollars, among the highest in the chamber. The incentive structure is unusually clean. Vance leads the US team in the Iran talks. He negotiated the June 17 memorandum with Witkoff and Kushner and pressed Trump to sign it; Rubio, with Ratcliffe and Hegseth, was among the skeptics. Both men are the presumptive rivals for 2028. One US official put it plainly to Axios: Rubio stayed out of the front seat, waiting to see whether Vance self-destructs. That is the architecture. If the MoU holds or a final agreement is reached, the credit belongs to a vice president openly critical of Israeli conduct and skeptical of open-ended war. If it collapses, Vance owns the failure, Rubio owns the vindication, and the coalition that has financed him for fifteen years has its candidate. Rubio's interest is not a better deal. It is no deal. In fact, it is war. His conduct tracks the interest. On his Persian Gulf tour he urged regional counterparts to increase pressure on Tehran while negotiations were live. This week in Manila he pronounced Washington willing to negotiate while accusing Tehran of not being serious — the formula that preserves the appearance of diplomacy while assigning blame for its collapse in advance. And it is a war he is pushing. Trump was elected twice on a promise to end the forever wars and to begin none of his own. What @SecRubio is steering him into is the precise thing that promise was made against: an open-ended military campaign with no defined objective, no exit and no plausible conclusion before January 2029. Every remaining month of this presidency would be consumed by Iran. The man who ran as the peace president would leave office as the author of another forever war, having been talked into it by a Secretary of State who wants his job. Rubio is using two offices to narrow the space in which negotiation can occur, in service of a nomination fight and a donor base, while the American taxpayer funds it and the region absorbs it.

Pretty sure this Mel dude isn't the best the male of the species has to offer.
