@barneyronay Outrageous. Hicks and Gillett, and the Glazers, came along to see what football was all about too

These are the people the ECB wants to sell its Hundred franchises to 😂 , ie those who expressly don’t know or care about cricket. At what point did it become ok to admit this kind of thing out loud? For all its faults football, for example, still has a degree of self-respect

Some personal news: I’m leaving @thetimes @TimesSport⁩. Been made redundant. I’ve loved my eight years there, great people, I thank them for the platform and I leave as current @SportSJA and @WeAreTheFSA Football Journalist of the Year 👍

Ten Hag has been protected by the Glazers studying Man Utd share price rather than results this season, so not a great week for his new bosses to be getting ready to arrive at Old Trafford. Not just Bayern and Liverpool to worry about in the days ahead

Broad is great. But why not retire at the end of the series, rather than making a very important day into a series of tearful montages all about him? England looked tired and distracted. But still expect them to win. theguardian.com/sport/blog/202…

They will say they've played *this* way since the start of last summer, but that's bollocks and should be treated as such #Ashes

For all the talk about Ben Stokes’ place in this England side, there is no cricketer in the world I’d rather have in that situation in a knockout game Throw in bowling and fielding and he’s been good value this World Cup. Importance will grow if Malan is out of the tournament

An interesting characterisation of Test-cricket fans in a Guardian leader this morning: "middle-aged accountants and retired colonels".

The #Haaland banter compilations will be everywhere this week after that miss, just like #Nunez last week. From 🤡 who have never kicked a ball in their life 🤷‍♂️

@huwzat I'd love to see more cricket on terrestrial TV but do the BBC actually want it? I thought a lot of the broadcasters were wary due to the nature of a 5 day game with no guaranteed end time (hence the preference for t20/the hundred with a 3/4 hour set window etc)

Sky/ECB confirm new deal 2025-28. While Sky are superb broadcasters, and it's inconceivable that they wouldn't be involved, no confirmation yet of BBC's involvement. One live Test a summer? So outrageous. Strange that this deal would be made without new chair/chief exec in place

Shane Warne was first to 700 Test wickets, an unfathomable milestone. But judging Warne on stats is like counting how many words Shakespeare wrote. It misses the point. He redefined his art. He made legspin cool. He changed the game. The most influential cricketer of my lifetime.

@nrfc_saints I’m not averse to Furbank at 10 but moving Hutchinson, who has been doing well at centre, to full-back is something I’m really not sure about. Obviously the coaches know more than me and hopefully it works out but it seems an interesting call. Biggar and Freeman are big misses.

Reassuring to know that taking regular trips to Perth to work on your batting, while no doubt really fun, doesn’t actually teach you much
