@ronanbeckman Same here. I like my Oasis. An enterprising person can even find a way to continue using books they have purchased from Amazon on their old kindle.

@mcshoggoth Technically, I can still use it by managing it with Calibre on my laptop. It is fiddly, but I refuse to buy a new one. I don't see why millions of users with a working device should dump them on a landfill when they work fine. Throwaway culture needs to stop.

Hooray. I'm seeing lots of posts responding to the Kindle shut-off controversy by suggesting everyone should get pirated books. Yeah. Punish the authors who had nothing to do with Amazon's dumb decision. It seems like one obstacle after another for us indies. 😐

@FurbyPerson Just thought you’d like to know about the oasis if you didn’t already. Seems like people are sad about buttons out there.

@mcshoggoth I like the keyboard, specifically I like typing on the device And I have still not seen a legitimate reason for Amazon to pull this off I do like the commitment to this btw, pinging me in a random post on your profile lol

@FurbyPerson I can’t reply to our previous convo bc the masoncross guy blocked me. But I wanted to suggest, if you like the physical buttons, look into the kindle oasis. No keyboard but at least the first gen had physical buttons and isn’t included in this issue.

@MillerDakotaJ @Kristin_Fiction @TAR_Kirk I know people like the physical buttons. Although I’d point out to them that none of the Kindle Oasis line is included in this obsolescence and at least the first gen had physical buttons.

@MillerDakotaJ @Kristin_Fiction @TAR_Kirk I understand the pain for the indie authors. I know lots of people use the kindle unlimited as a way of reading indies and others. But also these people haven’t bought a new kindle in at least 14-years. I bet they get a new phone every year tho.

@MillerDakotaJ @Kristin_Fiction I bought your book in physical format as I did with @TAR_Kirk ‘s but even if I had purchased it in kindle format I would still be able to read it without pirating it on my phone, iPad, and computer via the kindle app.

@Kristin_Fiction You are wrong. You own the kindle and if you weren’t fighting a straw man you’d understand that the kindle still works perfectly well. Your access is what has been revoked.

Ahora que Amazon eliminó el soporte a todos los Kindle de primero y segunda generación, usen kindlemodding.org y liberen sus Kindle de las garras de Amazon.

@FurbyPerson @MasonCrossBooks @amazon …from your old device There is still your computer, your phone, and your brand new cheap-considering-you-never-upgraded-once-in-14-years kindle. How many times did you upgrade your phone in the last 14 years?

@TheMekon_Venus They are approaching 20 years old. It doesn’t matter if they still work or not. You’ve gotten your money’s worth out of it 100x over. Buy a new one or see if you can use that big reader’s brain you have to find a different way to consume the written word.

@CarlaGericke Stop saying brick. Your kindle still works, moron. Your access to the kindle store via your 14-year old Amazon computer (the kindle) you still use is what has been revoked. Stupid babies.

Dear Amazon/Kindle Team, Thanks for the condescending 'longtime customer' pat on the head right before you brick my perfectly working 14-year-old Kindle on May 20. No more buying, borrowing, or downloading books. Reset it? It's dead forever. Treating loyal readers like cash cows with an expiration date is peak corporate greed. This is textbook planned obsolescence. Remember when you actually did cool shit like AutoRip for your customers? Insincerely, Enshittified Readers Everywhere #Amazon #Kindle #PlannedObsolescence
