FWIW, my preferred solution is "leave seniors alone and accept they'll stay where they are". But that would mean we'd have to stop whining about empty bedrooms and actually allow for family-sized homes to be built.

@jen_keesmaat Huh? A bunch of parked cars won't cause congestion. You need people driving them around. Gowth has simply outpaced transportation infrastructure - be that roads or rail.

People do not cause congestion, cars do. Get rid of the cars, get rid of the congestion. Simple.
Michael Opara@Michael56297223

@jen_keesmaat Keesmaat helped create the congestion ness was by jamming 700,000 more people into the city. Plan call for 1.5 million more people so that the developers/speculators can take more $ to the bank. Now they want to tax us more?? Why do we have to live in a crowded chaotic city?

I find it interesting some commentators like @acoyne who have previously espoused the @CI2100 "100 million population by 2100" idea, are also now naysayers of the HSR project. I would think CI2100 supporters would be the biggest advocates for bold infrastructure projects. 🤷‍♂️

The proposed CDN High Speed Rail will cost every taxpayer $7,800 for every single ticket sold, during the lifetime of its operation This is based on European adaption of High Speed Rail, using Canada's transport statistics, and common sense🧵

Comparing a one way solo or business traveller, the car still is the lowest, but the train becomes more competitive Car - $85 VIA - $155 HSR - $195 Air - $250 (travellers without a car will need local transport on Uber or other, at the point of destination)

In Europe Normal rail passengers converting to High Speed Rail was 20% When HSR provided a 50% quicker service, up to 60% of air passengers would switch to HSR Toronto Montreal is only 10% faster so estimated 27% convert - VIA to HSR = 200k people - Air to HSR = 440k people

It's just wild we live in a country where leaders of provinces can literally just abolish local governments if they wanted to. People DEMOCRATICALLY elected those councillors to represent them, provincial government shouldn't be allowed to get rid of them whenever they want.

BRAKING: Ontario has tabled legislation to slash regional governments in Niagara and Simcoe County. Councils will be cut to only mayors and an appointed chair

Not sure if this is sound policy by the @CPC_HQ. The conservatives and liberals have already alienated urban & rural people respectively. This will further hurt the conservative urban vote I think. Canada is so behind on transportation infrastructure, something needs to be done.

Pierre Poilievre on the Toronto–Quebec City High-Speed Rail Network: "Conservatives oppose the $90b Liberal-Alto train ... a future Conservative government will cancel this $90b boondoggle altogether."

I think this is a step in the right direction honestly. I wrote a letter to every single St. Catharines regional councillor last summer regarding Fourth Ave traffic snarls and didn't receive a single response... or even confirmation of receipt.

@MarkFabbroni Nope, utilization will be crap Toronto -Montreal may get some action but NEVER enough to justify the cost And with autonomous cars less than 3 years away the use case pretty much evaporates completely These were NEVER Bullet Trains they're only 1.5X to 2X faster than VIA Rail
