@nolanwpeterson Western Defense contractors don't want to learn this lesson, because it will cost them billions of dollars.

I still see many Western military experts misunderstanding how Ukrainians’ employment of drones makes them so lethal in combat. Ukrainians don’t just have a drone guy in every platoon, and they don’t treat drones as discrete weapons. They have dedicated drone battalions that field a range of drones of varying functions, creating low altitude, ‘air littoral’ stacks analogous to the manned aircraft stacks the USAF flew in Afghanistan & Iraq. These drone warfare units comprise an architecture of systems that complement each other. And it’s the interplay between these systems that delivers effects to ground forces that were previously out of reach without air superiority.

I’ll enter the chat on this one. Whichever clown from Team Newsom who posted this thinking they were trolling Florida apparently lacks the world wide web skill set to LITERALLY GOOGLE EARTH it. Nevertheless, the one photo of an “unfinished” bridge is actually studied by engineers around the world for its advanced technology. Y’all literally posted a photo of a bridge that was way ahead of its time, proving once again how much more brilliant Floridian leadership is than California “leadership.”

@GuntherEagleman @ComfortablySmug Sure, we can’t stop Somalis from wiring money to terrorists from our own country but we are all over Iranian banking operations. 👍🏼

HOLY CRAP Scott Bessent just confirmed that the Treasury is currently tracking money that the defecting leadership in Iran is trying to transfer out of the country. "At the Treasury, we have seen where they have wired their money out of the country and are coming for that. We will get it back to the Iranian people."

@Archer83Able Things like this is why the A-10 exists. There's no reason to have an 85 million dollar F-35 doing this. Also, I need video for... reasons.

@Pr1nceOfDarknes @Archer83Able Sure it does. How many ships have they sunk? At best, the Strait is in a stalemate - ship captains are scared to attempt a crossing, but Iran has little capability to damage them, and any one firing at a ship would expose their position and turn into red mist.

@Archer83Able Big deal. The A-10 can patrol all it wants, but the Straits of Hormuz remains in Iranian control.

@UGlobin36458 @Archer83Able probably loiter time and operational costs. The 30mm is probably the cheapest, most efficient way to blow up a small boat, too.

@Archer83Able The A-10 is so durable and effective that not even Air Force top brass can kill it.

A lot of people seem to be confused about why the USAF seems to hate the A-10. I have a theory. Each branch of the Armed Forces is shaped culturally by the realities of its core mission and associated relationship between the humans and the technical systems (see my post below on why the Navy tends towards technocratic and authoritarian politics). In the USAF, this results in an almost feudal system, where a few “lordly knights” go off to fight, and the rest of the system is there to enable them. Like every other feudal society, the aristocracy in the USAF has become very, very status conscious, with fighter pilots at the top of the food chain. And they see the A-10 as a poor representation of their own “glorious” fighters. “Pilots shouldn’t be down in the mud.” It’s also why the Army is happy with warrant officer pilots, and the Air Force hates that with a passion. Got to have that status. x.com/jon_golder/sta…

It should never have been retired. It's much more cost-effective than most of our aircraft. An A-10 costs around $19 million to make; an F15E Strike Eagle costs around $100 million. I suspect military contractors dislike it for that very reason. But it's also very good at the ground support role for which it was designed. You don't need a fancy jet for that role; you need a flying tank.

@awstar11 A-10 is a wonderful platform. Relatively inexpensive, sturdy as hell, efficient, carries a huge and varied payload, and strikes fear into enemies.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud: “I do not understand how they claim to defend Islamic causes while attacking Islamic countries. They are not attacking just one nation, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Türkiye, all are Islamic countries, and all have been targeted. Even before this war, what was Iran’s contribution to the Islamic world?”
