We could have seen a nationwide programme of home insulation, going door to door, making sure every home can keep in the heat, so no-one would risk getting sick or dying because they can’t afford heating in the winter. Why is this Government running from crisis to crisis?
Saul Staniforth@SaulStaniforth

Dan Tomlinson says the govt won't be rolling out a universal scheme to help everyone with their energy bills. Instead it'll take targeted steps. The interviewer asks him who'll receive the targeted help & when it will be available. Dan refuses to say

@Dan4Barnet You would do better listening to Tony Blair. At least he knows a thing about staying in term more than 2 years.

@TrisOsborneMP @7Kiwi Labour Just needs to listen to Tony Blair. He can read the room and see what the country needs. Unlike Starmer who gets it wrong but says he needs to go harder and faster (in wrong direction)

@7Kiwi As I’ve said; they’ve largely invested to decouple of oil and gas. France made this decision decades ago. This isn’t hard; it involves making tough calls now; for medium-long term benefit.

@TheAA_UK Thank you. When I did get through, and when your operator eventually found our fleet cover, the service was very good. Even my 92 year old mum said the young man was very nice. Thank you.

@TheAA_UK I have currently been on hold for over half an hour just waiting to speak to the first real person. Can the AA be called an Emergency service?? I hope this is not another victim of the “working from home” culture. So disappointed. Ringing up for my 92 year old mum

Labour has announced that the 5p cut on fuel duty will be extended for the rest of the year. I know a lot of my constituents are feeling cost-of-living pressures, so I’m pleased this government is keeping pump prices down in response.

@PatriciaNPino It says it all when we have 403 Labour MP’s and among all those they can not find a credible replacement for a prime minister who has destroyed the party in 2 years. How shallow is the pool??

Is it a good time to remind people that Britain successfully used price controls during WWII and that this, alongside other price targetting policies, are part of the reason Britain managed to sustain the war for so long?

Just finished a mega round of interviews on Iran, oil, sanctions, the CMA, competition, prices and profits. Lots of topics today, but behind the back and forth is a government committed to our economic security, and improving living standards. Wages have grown faster than prices every month since the election; growth fastest in G7 in Q1 2026; inflation falling; interest rates on the way down pre-Iran; govt borrowing falling as we make progress on the fastest deficit reduction in the G7; public services funded via responsibly tax rises, waiting lists down, A&E and ambulance waits down, police numbers up, immigration backlog halved. Lots done, more to do. Glad to be getting on with the job - off to Leeds now to talk about devolution now!

BREAKING: Andy Burnham u-turns on his desire to rejoin the EU “I am not proposing rejoining the EU” “I respect the decision that was made at the referendum” “The last thing we should do now is re-run those arguments” Flips his view from just 7 months ago when he backed rejoin

@JuliaHB1 Unfortunately you have showcased his political qualities. Like most up coming Labour stars he can stand in front of the camera or mic and convincingly spout shite as though he really believes it. Couldn’t run a tuck shop though

@DaleVince I say Starmer is putting his interests before country. He is a dud more interested in pushing through digital Id at all costs against public consensus. His paymasters must be proud of him.

To anyone considering a leadership challenge I say - put the country first, not your own interests or those you might claim are the interests of the party. Keir Starmer has a massive democratic mandate from the public, nobody has the right to seek to depose him, nobody. Not Wes, not Ed, not Andy, not Angie. Yes Keir is unpopular in the polls, that’s current public sentiment - it’s not a mandate for getting rid of him. Opinion polls are snapshots of opinions. Local election results are always an opportunity to register a protest. Labour has a job to do, we’re not even two years in yet, things are tough - a leadership challenge would be self indulgent and illogical - in my view.

After the second fossil fuel crisis in five years, it's clear that clean power is the only route to energy security. The Energy Independence Bill is the next step in our mission: tackling the affordability crisis, creating thousands of jobs and delivering energy security.

@elonmusk This is factually incorrect. Hitler was not a socialist but an authoritarian dictator who exploited public suffering to gain and consolidate power. Moreover, socialism as an ideology does not determine an individual’s psychology or intent.

@Keir_Starmer Completely deluded. Absolutely can’t read the room. Most things Labour have done are wrecking the country, and when lots of people say so they are called populists. He didn’t promise much at the last election because he knew he was going to win and the “big” calls have been wrong

These are tough results for Labour. There’s no sugarcoating it. We’ve lost brilliant Labour representatives who’ve stood up for their communities. People are still frustrated. Their lives aren’t changing fast enough. We haven’t offered enough hope or optimism for the future. I was elected to change this country - tough days like this don’t weaken my determination to do that. They strengthen it.

@AngelaRayner Was it a better deal for workers? It seems like your new bill and raising minimum wage and NI have actually caused more unemployment. Not sure how you see that as better.

No matter what they say, Reform UK will only let down the working class. They voted against our better deal for workers. With your support, we got it done. Only Labour will work for working people. Vote Labour 🌹
