@medieval_bops I’m 59. I remember the day my mom told me, in an effort to discourage me from marriage & children, that having kids ruins your life. My mom. To me, her kid. I’m still struggling to forgive her for that.

Sean W. Malone | That’s just, like, your opinion.
This is precisely why I think all the monetary incentives in the world keep failing to encourage people to have more kids. So much of our media, public culture, academia, etc. are just hostile to the very idea of kids and teach people that no one should even think about it til they're 30, but by then it's often kind of "too late". By 30, you are in the upswing of your career, you probably have some money and maybe you're even a home owner, but you aren't meeting many new people outside of work and dating coworkers is rarely a good idea. So you need to first find a good, stable partner, which is hard to do. Then you need to build a strong enough relationship that marriage and kids are viable. Most people will have lots of false starts, bad breakups, and failures before they find the right person. If you only start that process in your 30s, it could take you a decade to find the right person, then you're 40, and starting to have kids then... Like me. It's not actually too late, of course, but I really wish I'd been able to start sooner, cause now I'm going to be in my 50s trying to keep up with a 10 year old, because I spent my 20s and early 30s entirely focused on my education and career.

My wife was 22 and I was 23 when we married. We eventually had 8 children. Our 20s were marked by Boomer generation “advisors” at the grocery store, events, restaurants, and stores WARNING us not to have more children. They openly pitied us for having 3+ children. Boomer women thought my wife was being oppressed by her husband. At an Outback, a man openly told me “I feel sorry for you for having those kids.” Many Boomers were brainwashed to perceive having children “as a bad thing.” Worst of all, they felt empowered to insult a young couple in the presence of our children. Meanwhile, these people were in favor of importing the entire Third World into America for the sake of GDP. What a strange moment in American history.

@medieval_bops 50 and childless also regret it. I realized at 43, but too late to find anyone. Same on the birth control.

It *is* a big problem, especially for "smart"/compliant/conscientious kids, who innately want to be good and do good. If you cared about "the planet", not having kids was definitely the "right" thing to do.
Heather@iamheatheralice

@pasturecraft @medieval_bops My husband and I go round- I say it is fine if someone doesn't want kids, but not if it is because of climate change, overpopulation, etc. that they are taught in school. He doesn't think it happens like that. I think it is a big problem.

@medieval_bops You are one of millions. I barely made it under the wire and had two children but bitterly regret the brainwashing that made me have them so late. Feminism is cancer.

@TruthSeekingKay @medieval_bops I remember my dad said "How could you be so stupid?" when he found out about one of my pregnancies. Now at the age of 73 and in poor health, he says "family is the only important thing". I wish that memory didn't stand out so clear though

@medieval_bops @SpringLake01 I will remember you in our family rosary tonight. You are not alone and your voice can be a help to others. Heart speaks to heart. You should try a retreat with the Sisters of Life in NYC.

I'm so sorry 😔 I almost fell into this trap myself, thanks to an overbearing mother who drilled into me and my sister never to get married or have children. It worked until I got married and something in my brain switched. After a few miscarriages, I had my daughter. I think feminist boomer mothers have really done a number on Gen X. I hope you can find an outlet for nurturing and feel at peace with your decision 🙏🏽

We’ve had an openly mad culture for a while.

@TaylorRMarshall As a young girl my father would ask me “what do I always tell you” and I was trained to answer “never get married or have children”. He always did it in front of his friends. He thought it was hilarious.

@medieval_bops I watched an entire generation of mothers brainwashing their daughters, my sisters included, to never get married or have kids. Looking back on it, it's horrifying.

I am 51 and deeply regret not having kids. I was stringently brainwashed into believing that I should never have children. I’ve never even been pregnant as far as I know. I was on birth control from age 16 through age 49.

@MKAYalways I don’t disagree. It’s complicated. My mom took me in for my appointment. I was crying the whole time. she yelled at me after because she thought I was making her look bad in front of the doctor. She didn’t coerce me, but she also could’ve talked me out of it, and she didn’t.
