The fall of Portland, Oregon Here are major retailers that left Portland over declining conditions due to Democrat policies from 2022–2026 - Nike Community Factory Store (Operated since 1984, 40 years) Closed permanently because of 276 shoplifting reports in one year. They cited deteriorating public safety. Nike sent a letter to the mayor citing conditions - Walmart (Both Portland Locations)
580 employees laid off - Target (Three Stores)
Reason: Explicitly cited organized retail crime and shoplifting - REI
Reason: Highest break-in rate in two decades; over $800,000 spent on extra security in 2022 (including multiple incidents, one with a vehicle through the doors on Black Friday) - U.S. Bank (U.S. Bancorp Tower) Announced it would not renew its long-term lease
Building Sale: Sold in July 2025 for $45 million (down from $372 million in 2015 — ~88% value decline). - Wells Fargo
Announced plans to exit Portland - Starbucks
Closed at least 5–6 Portland locations in September 2025 alone. - Nordstrom Rack (Downtown)
 - CVS Pharmacy (SW Broadway) Reason: Employee cited shoplifting as a factor Malls Major Retail Centers also closed Pioneer Place Mall: Once had roughly 100 stores. It’s now down to 20. Described as a “dead mall.” • Lloyd Center Mall: Confirmed for full demolition. Now 90% vacant PacWest Center: Sold October 2025 for $55.7 million (down from $170 million in 2016. That’s a 67% drop) - Montgomery Park: Sold August 2024 for $33 million (down from $255 million in 2019, that’s a 87% drop)

@medieval_bops We were. And I was a cljmate doomer for a lot of years. And few of my close friends had kids so I wasn't even around them much until the past few years. Didn't know how much I'd enjoy them. I'm a man, so it's still possible for me. But rather unlikely. Onwards!

@pasturecraft Our generation was propagandized hard. For me, it started with my mom (who had me at 19). She wanted me to go to college and have a career. And she regretted not being able to party her 20s away. She didn't want me "to make the same mistakes."

"Can't sleep? Good. Your mind is still fired up. Still processing. Still working. While everyone else is unconscious, you're awake — which means you've got extra hours that nobody else has. Hours to think. To plan. To prepare. Most people wish they had more time in the day. You just got it. So don't lie there feeling sorry for yourself. Get up. Get after it. The enemy is sleeping. You're not. That's an advantage. Own it."

@billybinion My parents raised three children, a dog, more than one gerbil, and several tropical fish tanks, in middle class comfort, in a 1590 square foot house in Iowa City. Not imagining even one kid in 2000 square feet is just a luxury choice, nothing more.

From the author of the new NYT story on why some people aren't having kids. People should do what's best for them, but I find it extremely sad that anyone would forgo having a family because of *climate change.* Almost incomprehensible.

This was my life in 2016. Eventually I stopped hanging out with people who don’t understand basic stuff but went to bicker. Also that’s why I block aggressively. I can read a book. I don’t need to deal with people who don’t know and won’t learn.

I was on FaceTime with a close friend of mine since childhood, while she had six of her girlfriends over. They live in NYC and are “corporate girlies” in their late 20s. They’re all college graduates, very pretty, normal, dress well, go to Pilates, enjoy their $10 matcha everyday. They’re MAHA (without knowing it). They were asking me about my social media and all claim to “not be political” but I know every single one of the votes left or doesn’t vote at all. One of them said my social media is crazy and I have some insane takes. I asked for an example so maybe I could help expand on how I reached whatever conclusion I did. There was no example provided. I started asking about what they knew about our political climate. I started basic and asked if any of them know who our VP is. NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM COULD NAME OUR VICE PRESIDENT!!!!! I asked more questions, and was equally disappointed in their lack of knowledge. They said they just don’t like getting involved in politics. Yet they all voted for Kamala. They don’t know how laws get passed, they don’t know the branches of government, they don’t know why we’re at war with Iran, they just think it’s “unnecessary”, I could go on. We have a major education crisis in our country.

People also vote for Rs because the D's subject you to a radical, circus-like, culture war attack 24/7, including the "luggage thief," a cross-dressing surgeon general, fed gov suing schools that don't allow men in the girls locker room, etc.
constans@constans

@lion_politics How many times do you have to see this happen to get a fucking clue about how the world works? No one votes for republicans bc the economy does better under them. They vote for reounicabs bc they wear nice suits and are “business people” which voters aspire to identify with

Potential hot take: But I think bodybuilders, or people who are serious in the gym, are the BEST candidates to use GLP-1s. They check all the boxes to make these things a success: - resistance train consistently - high protein intake - already know how to control caloric/macro intake - using for a specific purpose/TIME FRAME - not going to be perpetually reliant on them If all of these are checked, why NOT use them to make the cutting process a bit easier? Sue me.

Nicotine is great, I’m all for it. But went down a rabbit hole. People are using cans of it a day? Guys. That will rot your skeleton. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor. Think the opposite of good blood flow. High dose will mess with your entire system, heart and brain.
