Movin' up! (Note: I think a few inland backyards may sneak into the 70s as early as Friday, and 80s as early as Saturday.)

We'll be watching for the next Space-X launch on WECT News' Carolina in the Morning. Clouds are departing the Cape Fear now, so visibility will be a close call.

On this final day of winter: an interesting crop of statistics. Wilmington just went back-to-back with "snowy" winters (3+ inches as I've defined it) for only the sixth time in history (records go all the way to 1870). Also intriguing: the late 1980s and 1950s had three-peats!

Monday's gusty storms delivered a wide variety of rainfall to the Cape Fear. (Typical "feast or famine" energy of convective season...) Next up: several dry days, and a warming trend, into the weekend.

Noisy and heavy as they are, storms are competing with each other and staying sub-severe early this afternoon. Better than the alternative! Just a few more hours and the threat window closes...

This cold front is bringing strong winds, strong showers, and strong storms. Stands to reason it'll bring a strong chill-down, too!

Storm coverage is ticking up here in the 8 o'clock hour. As of this post, all activity is sub-severe. Hopefully the day's a dud from that standpoint, but please keep an eye to the sky and your WECT Weather App in case. The severe risk should be done by sunset, which is awesome.

Droughts beget "I'll believe it when I see it" energy with rainfall forecasts. Even still, I like how the model data's pretty generous. Hopefully it comes with a bare minimum of severe storms.

A marginal severe risk opens for the Cape Fear Sunday / night as winds start to veer ahead of the next cold front. This risk will be higher in the warm sector Monday... ending around sunset. WINDY in any case! Check your WECT Weather App's alert settings to minimize blind spots.

Nice "first pass" of the next storm chance... NOAA's SPC keeps the Cape Fear in a level three "enhanced" severe risk Monday: respect! Same time: I envision the ocean having a small stabilizing influence, and multiple storm lines having to "share" available convective energy.

Per my previous post: the NWS decided on a Severe Thunderstorm Watch box instead of tornado. The watch is until 5p. The linear / cold frontal nature of Thursday's showers and storms makes timing fairly straightforward, unlike many summer setups. Thanks for staying alert!

First Alert: the National Weather Service is considering the issuance of a brief Tornado Watch for the Cape Fear Region through early afternoon. Keep an eye to the western sky and your WECT Weather App.

Necessarily, most of my focus this Thursday is on our short-term storm / cold front. The weekend's worth some time, though, as things are looking great Saturday and potentially showery - ahead of the *next* cold front - Sunday.
