My first of two papers @FlatironCCA has officially been published! We've reported the discovery of TOI-1859b, a warm giant planet with a 64-day period on an 𝙚𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙘 and 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙚𝙙 orbit. iopscience.iop.org/article/10.384…

@amannastro I think it’s worth recognizing that there are real scarcities of resources (grants, fellowships, TT jobs) in academia and jealousy is a natural feeling under those circumstances. sometimes you gotta take a step back and focus on other parts of your life to put it in context!

@SarahCBlunt @amannastro I think this is very wise! for me, focusing on goals like “do fun science” and “collaborate with people I like” is more fulfilling and less jealousy-inducing than letting myself get too invested in metrics and awards.

@jlillobox @rodluger @exoplaneteer you should check out the solar data!! … but to be clear those RVs were for testing the model’s accuracy, we trained on a more reasonable sampling 😅

@toomanyspectra some of the biggest challenges here (tellurics and stellar variability) are being tackled by the EPRV community with promising results, so I am personally optimistic that we can get there!
