Another telling example of the true priorities of Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR). Despite their name, they don't speak up for the Hindus of Pakistan. Not even for the 1000+ minor Hindu, Sikh and Christian girls that get kidnapped, raped, forcibly converted and enslaved for life each year, due to institutional support from Pakistani judiciary, lawmakers, media and police. Instead, HfHR helps platform and sanitize the same Pakistani institutions through interviews like this. Their lack of interest in human rights for Hindus is not surprising, given their non-Hindu "advisors". In an Advisory Board of 19 people, only 8 are even Hindu! And 14 of these 19 advisors are prominent Indians living, working and advocating in India, yet this group pretends to represent the Hindu diaspora. Western lawmakers and institutions need to be vary and talk to authentic voices. Pakistani institutions will of course continue to partner with them.
Hindus for Human Rights@Hindus4HR

“When the law presumes the accused is guilty, and they have to prove their innocence,” the process becomes the punishment. HfHR’s Ria Chakrabarty speaks powerfully in T-Magazine on UAPA, political prisoners, and the criminalization of dissent in India. buff.ly/bTTdf2E

Sita Navami is dedicated to Devi Sita, who is the consort of Bhagwan Ram. Sita Navami falls a month after the occasion of Rama Navami. Shri Rama was also born on the Navamai tithi in Chaitra month In the Hindu calendar. Devi Sita also came to be known as Janaki, as she was the adopted daughter of King Janaka of Mithila. As is observed in Hindu tradition, married women keep fast on Sita Navami Day and pray for the long lives of their husbands. This day has great religious significance for Hindu devotees and is celebrated with immense fervor and gaiety. #sitanavami #sitadevi #siyaram #sitaram #ramayana #hindufestival #hinduculture #CoHNA

CoHNA stands in solidarity with Armenian Americans & Canadians as the world commemorates 111 years of the brutal genocide of Armenian Christians under the Ottoman empire. If you are in Canada, make sure to attend a commemoration event (x.com/ancc_cnac/stat…) near you. Last year, CoHNA's Quebec chapter organized a discussion of communities navigating the transgenerational trauma of brutal genocides. Watch this excerpt where @MtlShantk narrates his personal story of discovering what befell his own Armenian family. Watch the full discussion: youtube.com/watch?v=2SopfK…

A strong relationship is built when partners stand by each other through both comfort and difficulty, supporting each other with respect, commitment, and shared values. Just as Sita ma chose to accompany Shree Rama to the forest, the message is about walking together in life’s journey, not only in moments of ease but more so in times of challenge. #sita #sitajayanti #sitanavmi

Prosecution service in Canada province to get dedicated hate crime unit after motion passed. “Right now, many incidents involving hate or bias against groups, including Hindu Canadians, don’t end up with actual hate crime charges,” CoHNA Canada said, adding that though there was an existing Attorney General’s Hate Crime Working Group which provided “valuable insight”, it lacked “the authority to actually take cases to court or make final decisions.” hindustantimes.com/s/1SEYXnE

This xenophobic and racist rhetoric from @realDonaltrump about Indian and Chinese Americans only exacerbates the current hatred faced by our communities. From the brutal beheading of Chandra Nagamallaiah, to physical attacks on temples, to a rash of surging online hate, our communities are already hurting. From Silicon Valley to Main Street, from small businesses to advances in sciences and medicine, from manufacturing to our armed forces, Indian and Hindu Americans have contributed tremendously to the our great nation. We urge you to delete these posts immediately. @POTUS

Adi Shankaracharya was born in the village of Kaladi in Kerala to a Nambudiri Brahmin couple, who had devoted their lives to serving the poor. They named their child: “Shankara,” which means “the giver of prosperity.” After the death of his father, when Shankara was very young, he wanted to live the life of Sanyasi. Adi Shankara, along with Madhava and Ramanuja, played important roles in the revival of Hinduism. In addition to his vast knowledge of philosophy, he was also a great poet. He composed several devotional prayers during his lifetime. Nirvana Shatakam, Soundarya Lahari, and Sivananda Lahari are some of his notable and most popular compositions. He also penned his opinions on his understanding of the Bhagavad Gita, Brahma Sutras, and the Upanishads. #AdiShankaracharya #NirvanaShatakam #SoundaryaLahari #Shankaracharya #HinduTradition #HinduHistory

Justice has finally been served, though the heart remains heavy. Four yrs after the tragic loss of Karthik, a Canadian court has found his killer guilty of 1st-degree murder. While no verdict can fill the void, this is a monumental step for our family. Rest in peace, little bro

This marks the day of the birth of Guru Parshuram (literal meaning, Rama with an axe) The aim of his birth was to help Dharti Maa (Mother Earth) get rid of sinful and destructive monarchs that neglected their duties. The day marks the beginning of the Treta Yuga and is believed that good deeds done on the day are forever. The day is celebrated by fasting and organising bhajans, satsang and processions. Today we celebrate 44 years of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. For Hindu Canadians, the Charter is the foundation that guarantees our right to practice our faith, build our temples, celebrate our traditions, and pass on our heritage to the next generation. It protects the right to wear a tilak and bindi without hesitation, to display the Swastika without fear, and to gather in our mandirs without intimidation. The Charter commits Canada to freedom of religion, expression, and equality before the law, and that includes Hindu Canadians. 🕉️🇨🇦

Happy anniversary to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms! Enacted on April 17, 1982, when Queen Elizabeth II signed the Proclamation of the Constitution Act, 1982, it helps ensure all Canadians can live free from discrimination. 📸 3782519
