Today, in the presence of H.E Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed, we inaugurated a state of the art medical research complex, marking a new chapter in the scientific ecosystem of 🇪🇹 and across 🌍.
Built within the Armauer Hansen Research Institute, this facility goes beyond infrastructure. It stands as a center of excellence advancing a self sustaining and healthy future for our nation.
With 40 laboratories, advanced genomics and bioinformatics platforms, and a dedicated bioequivalence center, it will strengthen local pharmaceutical production, ensure quality, and enhance our readiness for public health emergencies.
It marks a significant step forward in our journey toward sustainable local manufacturing of vaccines and medicines, strengthening our long term vision of self reliance.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed for inaugurating this important national facility.
This is not just an investment in science. It is an investment in Ethiopia’s future.

Today, we marked World Down Syndrome Day alongside families, partners, and advocates.
Children with Down syndrome are not defined by a condition, but by their dignity, their potential, and their right to be fully included.
In 🇪🇹, we are strengthening awareness, expanding support, and working to ensure that services are more inclusive and accessible. We also recognize that this work must go further, and we remain committed to advancing it in partnership with families, communities, and all stakeholders.
This year’s theme, “We end the stigma together,” is a clear reminder that inclusion is not charity. It is a shared responsibility.
Let us move from awareness to sustained action, and ensure that every child is seen, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.
Thank you @DeborahFdn

Many thanks to @HelenClarkNZ and the entire @Gavi Board for a productive week of meetings. Your expertise and insights are invaluable as we navigate challenges, accelerate impact and map out the future of the Vaccine Alliance. We must acknowledge that the global health landscape in which we operate is radically changing but thanks to the #GaviLeap reforms, we are more agile and ready to respond to future challenges and threats.

Today, @FMoHealth , together with our development partners, signed a financial agreement amounting to USD 282.4 million to strengthen maternal, reproductive, newborn, and child health services across the country.
The RMNCH Compact represents a major step forward in improving health outcomes for mothers and children through matched contributions from the Government and development partners, while also strengthening sustainable health financing in Ethiopia.
This agreement demonstrates strong national ownership and reflects the spirit of shared responsibility and partnership between the Government and development partners.
As we continue to strengthen our efforts to expand access to quality maternal, reproductive, newborn, and child health services, this initiative will also help accelerate 🇪🇹’s progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our development partners and to all those who contributed to making this important agreement possible.

Today is the day the sun broke through a sky that had been dark for all of Africa and Black people! It is the day Ethiopia triumphed over invading forces who had encroached upon her borders and violated her sovereignty and her people's freedom on the mountains of Adwa. It is the day Ethiopia preserved civilization, which had remained unviolated for three thousand years. Our fore fathers and fore mothers deserve our utmost respect who through the sacrifice of their blood handed down to us an Ethiopia in which we live with pride, alongside a marvellous civilization, history, and great honour.
We, the Ethiopians of today, must sustain the country our ancestors died to build by living in unity and love. Learning from them, we must say ‘No’ to poverty, division, and backward thinking, and transition Ethiopia toward prosperity. The time when Ethiopia becomes even greater than it has ever been, is not far off!

On the margins of the @_AfricanUnion Assembly, @Pandemic_Fund joined the High-Level Event on Deepening Collaboration between Finance & Health Leadership in advancing #Africa’s #healthsecurity and sovereignty, co-convened by @AfricaCDC, @AfDB_Group & @NEPAD_Agency. @PriyaBasu2017 underscored:
🌍Country ownership must be at the center of preparedness investments.
🪙Catalytic financing multiplies impact.
💡The Africa continent is the only region where domestic co-investment exceeds international co-financing through the Fund’s projects.
🤝 Thank you to the organizers and partners for an insightful discussion.

On the sidelines of #AU39, @AfricaCDC @NEPAD_Agency and @AfDB_Group held a timely meeting on “Advancing Africa’s Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda: Ensuring Sustainability through Committed Financing and Leadership.”
As Vice Chair of the Africa CDC Governing Board, I firmly believe that Africa’s health security must be anchored in strong continental institutions, sustainable financing, and deliberate leadership.
This meeting was a powerful demonstration of alignment in action: bringing together public health leadership, development finance, and implementation platforms to accelerate the Africa Health Security & Sovereignty (AHSS) agenda.
Africa’s health future must be shaped by African leadership, African solidarity, and African solutions.
