This bio-rad c1000 touch dual block thermal cycler tried to burn down the lab today. I was running a routine PCR on both blocks and sparks and acrid smoke started flying out the back. Should I stick with the brand or try another one?

@mellowgeorge WOW! I would contact your rep. and ask them for a trade-in/replacement. That is scary. We have a Bio-Rad PCR machine and it's great. I would buy another.

Whole-plasmid sequencing is unsettlingly revealing 😬 look at all these mismatches in the mini-white gene of pUASt when compared to the 'reference' sequence.

@FlySci Oh "Indian spicy" is a truly unique experience. I tried it once and never again. It was yummy until about halfway through when I can no longer taste anything except heat. The restaurant owner wanted to switch it out with a mild one. Too late. 😅
