🐶STRAY DOGS, THE LAW & THE ROLE OF GREENACRES RESCUE🐶 From time to time we feel it is important to explain the role Greenacres plays in relation to stray dogs, the legal responsibilities surrounding stray dog services & to address some of the misinformation plus untruths that unfortunately circulate online The collection & holding of stray dogs is not a service provided simply because we are a rescue centre. Under UK law, every Local Authority has a legal responsibility to deal with stray dogs within its County. Councils can either provide this service directly or appoint a contractor or organisation to provide it on their behalf Greenacres currently provides stray dog kennelling services for Pembrokeshire & Ceredigion County Councils This service exists first & foremost for public protection & animal welfare. Stray dogs can be frightened, injured, unpredictable & vulnerable. By ensuring these dogs are safely contained, not only are the dogs themselves protected but the wider public are too. This helps prevent incidents such as road traffic accidents involving loose dogs, attacks on other animals / livestock, injuries to members of the public & the stray dogs coming to harm It is also important to remember that under UK law it is ultimately the legal responsibility of the dog’s owner to keep their dog safe, secure & under proper control at all times. Failure to do so can result in enforcement action or prosecution by the relevant Local Authority It is also important to understand that the term “stray dog” is somewhat outdated in modern day UK society. The days of large populations of dogs living wild on the streets are, thankfully, largely a thing of the past in this country. In reality, the vast majority of dogs entering the stray system today come from 1 of 2 situations: 1. They are either genuinely lost, having escaped from homes or become separated from owners whilst out walking 2. They have been deliberately abandoned It is very easy to view these situations through rose-tinted glasses & assume that every dog has a worried owner desperately searching for them Sadly, the reality is often very different. Almost half of stray dogs that have to be signed into kennels are never claimed. In many cases owners are identified & contacted but either deny ownership or state they no longer want the dog returned Under current legislation, Local Authorities have the legal right to euthanise unclaimed stray dogs after 7 days. Although this is something that has not happened in Pembrokeshire or Ceredigion for many years, it still happens in Counties across the UK every single day Preventing that outcome was one of the founding reasons for Greenacres Rescue & why we approached Pembrokeshire County Council back in 2016 to offer support with the stray dog service We made a commitment that every unclaimed dog would be given the opportunity of rescue with no prejudice regarding breed, age or health condition. Since then we have expanded this work to also support Ceredigion County Council Across the UK there are many Council Pounds & holding kennels working to manage stray dogs within their Counties Rescue networks are often what prevent dogs reaching the point of euthanasia after their statutory holding period ends. We work closely with many Council Pounds throughout the UK, often alongside dedicated individuals known within rescue as “Pound Pullers”, who work tirelessly to secure rescue placements for dogs once they have legally served their stray time Greenacres works on both sides of this system. Sometimes we are able to offer rescue spaces to dogs from other Council Pounds so they can continue their rehabilitation & rehoming journey with us. Equally, there are occasions where dogs from our own stray system are placed with trusted rescue partners elsewhere in the UK to help them access suitable homes through those centres. The goal is to prevent unnecessary euthanasia 1/2 #teamgreenacres #rescue #k9hour #rehomehour

The main stream news is failing to do their job, so here is the bigger picture on this story out of NH. The man pretending to be a woman hanging out in women and children's private spaces is Christopher Beaulieu. He was previously convicted of felonious sexual assault (victim was a minor). So the thing they say never happens is absolutely happening. He also hangs out at Chuck E Cheese in Manchester. Judy Walcott was getting ready to use the bathroom in the women’s locker room at the Concord Planet Fitness when she saw Christopher hanging up belongings outside a shower. Understandably she was very uncomfortable and scared (I know this feeling because men use our restrooms in the State House too), so she went to the front desk and reported it. The employees ignored it. A few days later, she reported it to another employee who called her “transphobic” and told her to quit if she didn’t like it. A few hours later, the assistant manager called her and canceled the membership. They forged her signature on the cancelation too. This smells like a lawsuit waiting to happen. So a woman was punished for being frightened in her private space, and the man is still hanging out freely in there. @KellyAyotte help! @libsoftiktok
