@FixingEducation By the time I got to my last couple of years before retirement, I was extremely efficient with my time. All my own procedures were streamlined and I was obsessive about improving that. I STILL could not get close to getting everything done in my contracted time.

I’m amazed at teacher contracts…specifically what little time (prep) is provided for teachers to actually get stuff done. If teachers ONLY worked contractual hours, 90% of the needed work wouldn’t happen even for the most efficient ones. 🤔

Missed 4 days of teaching school this week. Sciatic nerve has flared up and I cannot walk. Been a tough 5 days- it worsened Sunday night so Labor Day was miserable. Hoping for relief by Monday so I can get back to school. Missing my students. Quite a depressing week.

@BeschlossDC My assistant principal came to my door to say turn on the TV.—That a plane hit the World Trade Center. I was teaching High School Science in Anderson SC. From Long Island NY. Grew up seeing the towers from the top floor of my High school on LI. Awful day.

Especially to explain to younger people who can't remember September 11, 2001, does anyone have a memory of learning the news that day that you wish to share?

@heymrsbond We lost my Father-in-law last week. Both my parents are gone. We still have my Mother-in-law. You are so correct- life is very short and hard. Also lost a friend last week to drowning. My brother-in-law lost his father-in-law last week as well. Exceptionally hard week for him.

@ballardam I am starting year 38 and I do try new things. I actually do exactly what you do on my way to school. I am taking a class this Saturday to get more new ideas for next year.

I really hate the narrative that older teachers which I guess I qualify for as I’ll be starting year 24 do not try new things…ummm, all the time. Sometimes as I’m driving to work, I will change my lesson plan for the day 😬

It has been an awful week. What a way to end our summer break.

@Cabal_Educator I did. I remember well my friend @keoweeretired teaching it. The noise of the typewriters made me crazy when I covered her class! I don’t know how she did it. But I know she was really good at it!
