I spent all day yesterday in 30° heat cutting and planing doors outside, then lifting them into a house and carrying them up and down the stairs multiple times across five separate doors. I drank around five pints of water and had to stop about ten times to wipe the literal sweat from my brow. I was tired, yet I still got the job done. There is an argument to be made for things like mandatory water or shade breaks in manual labour, especially where employers are reckless. There is no argument for office workers sat at a desk with a fan or air conditioning.

@Yoda001 My friend lived in a 15 minute city. He once went 17 minutes outside the city and the radius police showed up, fined him £20,000 and gave him a 2 year suspended sentence. I haven't seen him in 12 years now. Really makes you think.

So Oxford UK is to become a 15 minute city in August. Do people realise what a 15 minue City is?????? Do you realise they need a pass to leave it, even to go to work???? The UK just “smashed” its May temperature record… but here’s the part the Met Office conveniently leaves out: The PREVIOUS record was set in 1922. That’s 104 years ago. Long before SUVs, private jets, or modern CO₂ emissions. Heathrow Airport didn’t even exist yet. The area was literally farmland and small villages. So if a 1922 heatwave could produce nearly identical temperatures in a world with ~130 ppm less CO₂, maybe, just maybe, natural variability plays a much bigger role than the panic merchants admit.

@thenewmatador @lembitopik @paulk652517 As I said, practices need to adapt. Different working hours, starting earlier, taking a break in the heat of the day and finishing later. Our bodies adapt to different temperatures, we don’t need to grind to a halt.
