@mxtaverse He was expected to succeed Mamata after her retirement, being the main architect of the Nandigram movement, while Mamata was the face. The situation shifted dramatically when her nephew appeared from out of nowhere, making it obvious who she would select as her successor.

Suvendu Adhikari rose to fame as a TMC leader when he led the successful protest movement against Left govt's land acquisition project to set up a special economic zone in Nandigram. His dad was a Congressi union minister in UPA 2.

BJP in Bengal is largely made up of ex-Left cadre with saffron flags and ex-TMC leadership with central BJP party funds. BJP in Kerala has been trying to do something similar since 2021 but has not succeeded yet, maybe because of long violent history between Left and RSS.

@Dspdps16 @DwellingDeep_ I also heard from relatives that many Muslims from Malda and Murshidabad voted for Congress, which is not unexpected, given that those areas were Congress bastions before TMC took over after coming to power.

BJP effectively contested only 210 seats. If these results are accurate, they are winning 192 out of 210. Meanwhile, despite the 30% edge often mentioned for Mamta by various pollsters and journalists, her community remains loyal. She is winning 100/100 .

A 48% vote share for the BJP in a state where the TMC’s local machinery is literally embedded in every tea stall and welfare queue is statistically absurd. In 2021, they predicted a BJP victory, and we saw how that ended, with a TMC sweep. This isn't an exit poll, it’s a wish-cast that ignores the 92% turnout, which historically indicates a surge in the rural female voter base that almost always favors the incumbent.

@LostHandrails @onetiponehand_ He secured another 5 years as an RS member. He does not care at this moment. Maybe he will rejoin BJP. Anyway, BJP won't go after him after forming the government, unlike many other TMC leaders.

@Diligent1Writer @TodaysChanakya You can't predict an accurate electoral outcome when there is rampant rigging and intimidation involved. ECI literally dismantled TMC's goon network during voting. Now, expect the unexpected. I trust Today's Chanakaya.

@TodaysChanakya I have been following Bengal politics and Mamata Banerjee since my childhood. I saw her video today appealing to her caders. I never found her that anxious since 2011. I think she is also smelling the coffee, especially after ECI completely dismantled TMC's electrical machinery.

@GabbbarSingh Don't underestimate TMC. Mamata understood that TMC is not driven by ideology, so to secure loyal support, she established an incentive-based system where supporting the party ensures livelihoods for many. I suspect this is why TMC deliberately avoided creating job opportunities.

@Jamie_Venom For young TMC voters, the party set up a system in which people work on contractual jobs. They worry about losing their livelihoods if TMC loses. TMC created this beneficiary system in which each vote it receives is linked to a specific transaction. There is no loyalty otherwise.

People ( BJPians) are thinking for he is threatening common man in this speech. Whereas he is threatening political cadres. People of Bengal understand this distinction hence don't outrage over all this.

“Last time we lost in Arambagh, Goghat, Khanakul, Pursura…but we spared you out of magnanimity. This time, I personally take responsibility. After May 4, I'll see whose father from Delhi comes to save them.” ~ Abhishek Banerjee’s open threat to voters.

@_TheEnigmous Kudos to CRPF and ECI. If they manage to conduct a peaceful election in the presidency region, it would be an incredible achievement. No other state has experienced such extensive rigging and violence during an election.

@Aunindyo2023 This is only part of the story. The Left also had a significant Muslim voter base, which has now shifted to TMC. Conversely, many middle-class Bengali Hindus, who traditionally supported TMC or Congress, have now switched to the BJP.

Many BJP backers in Bengal are former CPI(M) voters. The violence unleashed by the TMC after 2011, forced them to seek refuge in the BJP, since it ruled at the centre. This strategic transition, from left to right, preceded the ideological migration to political Hindutva.
