At a very young age, I think the year I entered Kindergarten, I was for reason I don't remember (but likely "behavior problems" which mostly meant my kindergarten teacher hated me)
I was given an IQ test
This test came back very high (top 98th percentile)
I'm not exaggerating, within 3 weeks they stuck me in special ed. Not like "oh you just have a learning aid" special ed.. They pulled me out of regular class and stuck me in with kids who were on course to being sent to a rewarding career of retreading tires, and a few non verbals with violent tendencies
the makeshift room for this new "class" was a carpet wall separated section of the cavernous and unfinished basement of the auditorium where they stored ancient furniture until it rotted to dust as a ward against future budget cuts
I had issues fitting in before this... I became a complete social outcast forever after that within our small town
My parents eventually raised enough hell for me to be put back in regular class rooms by about 3rd grade, but the damage was done socially and mentally...
The abuse by teachers didn't stop tho... In fact that 3rd grade teacher used to lock me in her closet during class "because I asked too many questions and was a distraction"
Shes also the one who insisted on the adhd meds... which REALLY messed me up for another set of years
Needless to say my children will NEVER be exposed to the abuse mill we call a public education system under any circumstances. I personally view it as one of the institutions that needs to be completely eliminated if we are to ever regain our country

My 3rd grade teacher referred me to special ed cuz she thought i was retarded, cuz I have dysgraphia and wouldn't write long drawn out sentences to answer reading questions. She sent me to the "lower" reading group, and gave me the book they were reading, and told me to "work hard to catch up." Seriously, there'd be questions like, "What did little Timmy do when people teased him in chapter 7" and i'd just like "Timmy went and told the teacher that the kids were bullying him." and apparently I was supposed to write a whole fucking paragraph about Timmy squealing to the teacher. Since I had trouble writing, I just kept things short, to prove i read the lesson, and understood it. I still remember the book the lower reading group forced on me. "Race Against Death: A True Story of the Far North" by Seymour Reit. Basically a book about the mushers bringing diphtheria medicine to Nome, Alaska. It was a pretty cool book, but way below my level. I speedread the whole thing during lunch and the reading class right after (while kids struggled to read) and after the class I told the teacher I finished it, and gave a synopsis on the whole book. She was convinced I somehow cheated and sent me to the office. (This is the same teacher that called me "Oreo" to my classmates and encouraged them to tease me cuz mom was white.)
