Proud of these two Cadets, and hope for their future success. They balled out all week, and helped lead the South to a 23-9 win in the 60th Shriners North-South All Star game last night. #shriners #northsouthallstars @BradyTrebley @M_Hobson4

Player Spotlight Q&A with Eric Appleby / Cascade HS | Class of 2028 | 3.2 GPA | 2025 3A State Champs | #71 C 6’0 245 lbs Top 2025 Moment A moment that stands out to me especially would be running out during that state game, and just thinking that I can’t let the people I love down. Gotta play to the whistle with everything I have. Describe your style of play My style of play I would say is aggressive, but not too much. I finish my blocks and know where I’m going with maximum confidence. Highlight of the 2025 season The highlight of the season would have to be after the semi-state game, going into the locker loom and having the time of my life with my brothers. Favorite road stadium We were blessed last year with where we played. We played in some great places but obviously Lucas oil has the top spot, with Lawrenceburg right after. Toughest road stadium? The toughest is definitely Lawrenceburg because of their dome like stadium. It was so loud and energetic, it truly was an awesome experience. Best football advice you've received The best advice I’ve been given was from my dad who is also my position coach. When I was a freshman I was very undersized and he really pushed me to get on creatine and gain weight and to really put my nose to the grindstone with football. Which I am so very grateful for. All Star game? It would mean a ton and a half! I respect those guys so much and how they come back for one last game as a high schooler and play with the guys they love. Best thing about your school The best part of being a student athlete at my school is being able to do a bit of everything. You do not have to be good at just one thing. You can really try and push to be good at 1, 2, or even 3 or 4 sports. Cascade is very good at making sure you can do all the things you love and that is only one of many reasons why I love Cascade and I walk with so much school pride. Favorite part of practice My favorite part of practice is definitely inside run. Getting to do what we are best at with no distractions. That’s all I could ask for out of a part of practice. Has portal impacted recruiting? Honestly, I am not sure. I am just now starting to try and focus on getting my name out there and so I have no opinion on whether or not it does or does not. Favorite sports movie My favorite sports movie is for sure Friday Night Lights and for my favorite sports show that would have to be Last Chance U. Favorite athlete If I could sit down with any athlete for an hour I would have to say I would choose Zach Frazier the center for the Pittsburgh Steelers. If you know me you know I am a very big Steelers fan along with my whole family. And to learn from someone like him it would be an amazing honor.

Cascade begins title defense with new coach By Paul Gable - HPG Staff Fresh off a Class 3A state title and losing its head coach after making a trip to Lucas Oil Stadium, the Cascade Cadets went out and got another proven winner with a great pedigree. Nick Brickens takes over the reigns at Cascade, replacing Connor Simmons, who took an administrative role in another district after guiding the Cadets to a 15-0 season and a state crown. While this is the first head coaching job for Brickens, he is no stranger to winning. He was a member of two national title teams at the University of Saint Francis, played for two state championships at New Palestine and was on the coaching staff of two more state championship winning teams at New Palestine. Needless to say he is ready for the rigors that come with being a high school football coach. "I have been with the boys for about three weeks now. The offseason has been short as an entire unit, but they had been working together before I accepted the job. There is a lot of excitement in the community about this upcoming season," Brickens told Hoosier Prep Gridiron. For the last few seasons, Cascade lined up and just ran at will against opponents, while having a stingy defense that shut everyone down. A year ago, the Cadets averaged 52.9 points per game and surrendered 13.5 per contest. Cascade scored 40 or more in 13 of the 15 games and held opponents to seven points or less in seven games, including three shutouts. However, there were some heavy hits during graduation for the Cadets. Gone are playmakers Brady Trebley, Marcus Hobson, Braxton Lewis, Toby Savini, Bentley McClellan and JT Roshong. "It is always tough to replace players that had a lot of varsity experience, but all of the returning players have been working really hard to earn a spot to play on Friday nights," the first year head coach said. While some talent has left due to graduation, Cascade does bring quite a bit back in 2026, especially up front, where four of five starting offensive linemen return. Those players are Eric Applebly, Gunner White, Wyatt Minardo and Dillon Setty. In addition, Brickens benefits from having All-State players Lucas Farmer and TJ Turner back this fall. After running roughshod over everyone in the inaugural year of the Monon Athletic Conference, the Cadets will look to repeat the feat against the likes of North Putnam, Greencastle, Southmont, Western Boone, Crawfordsville, North Montgomery and Frankfort. However, before then, Cascade has a season opener with Monrovia on Aug. 21 before returning home against Danville in week two. With the season inching closer, Brickens said he has one major goal for his team before August rolls around. "Our goal this summer is to hone in all of individual skills to become a unified team of 11. This is a new team with a new head coach, so we will continue to mesh together and become a true team throughout the summer," Brickens said.
