A family member who worked for Coca-Cola marketing told me a while back (when a large Coke at McDonald's was $1.99) that COST for the cup, ice, lid, straw, AND the Coke was $0.17
You would have to go through 12 of these before breaking their profit.
Soda fountain drinks are the single MOST profitable item in a restaurant.

A lot of folks don't remember when flying wasn't that common because it was cost prohibitive. Growing up in the 70s and 80s, only folks with $$$ regularly flew. I didn't take my first flight until I was about 20. That would have been in 1993. Back then, they still served meals.

In todays educational climate, I think about this a lot.
8th graders in the 1950s were taught far more than graduates (in many districts) are today.
In my generation, most of us (in my school) were in Algebra in 7th Grade. (NOTE: This was pre-DOE!)
The below image is a page from a "one-classroom" math textbook. 2nd graders next to 8th graders, learning the same things.
We have GOT to get education back on track or we will end up with a 4th Grade workforce.

When I was coming of age as a junior f@g hag in suburban New Jersey I was obsessed with AIDS and consumed every piece of media I could get my hands on about it. At the time — and probably still to this day — the common refrain was that Reagan was personally responsible for the deaths of thousands of gay men by refusing to do anything about the epidemic. One of my most “mind blown” moments was learning about author and playwright turned activist Larry Kramer and how he was pilloried by his own community when he said wait a minute boys maybe pump the breaks on the gay sex until we can get to the bottom of what’s going on. Larry, who ended up getting HIV himself, was the pinnacle of the loud annoying gay Jewish liberal activist with a messiah complex type but I’ve always had such a soft spot for him.

A common normie folk belief is that AIDS was ignored by The Establishment out of homophobia. The opposite is true; AIDS became the most researched disease in human history within a few years, and gay orgs strenuously fought measures that might have stopped it.

Right, if homeschooling is actually super high quality, then homeschooling families should not object to being evaluated, tested, and checked-in-on to make sure their kids are actually learning.

Look, pro-homeschooling people are piling on this guy but he's not wrong at all. I know of families who are straight-up failing to teach their children beyond a 2nd-grade education. Like 16-year-old kids who don't know what the Capital of the US is, have never heard of Toronto, and could not perform a basic algebra problem. While it's true that there are many excellent homeschooling families whose instruction far exceeds that of any public school, the fact is that the American system of "school your kids however you want" does also yield a lot of severely stunted kids who get stuck playing "catch-up" for the rest of their lives. My wife was homeschooled, we might homeschool, I'm not averse to the practice per se, but it's a fact that there's a whole world of multi-generational homeschoolers who are not and will not rise above a 2nd or 3rd grade education level by their own volition. Should the state intervene in these cases? I dunno, the answer to the question is not as "easy" as many make it out to be. The idea of barely getting through 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' at the age of 16 should be appalling, and it IS happening in some American homeschooler families.

We've become desensitized by the constant circus and our standards keep on falling lower and lower, but it's wildly inappropriate for the Defense Secretary of the US to refer to his domestic political adversaries, while the country is at war, as America's "biggest adversary"
