Can anyone pinpoint the exact moment when everything in society started getting noticeably worse?

@OnwardState #1 reason new reataurants fail is they were undercapitalized. Out after six months? Most likely this reason.

A family member who worked for Coca-Cola marketing told me a while back (when a large Coke at McDonald's was $1.99) that COST for the cup, ice, lid, straw, AND the Coke was $0.17 You would have to go through 12 of these before breaking their profit. Soda fountain drinks are the single MOST profitable item in a restaurant. Drink water.

@blackgirlinmain First flight was in 1981. Round trip Denver/Orlando. $600. About $1900 in today's dollars.

A lot of folks don't remember when flying wasn't that common because it was cost prohibitive. Growing up in the 70s and 80s, only folks with $$$ regularly flew. I didn't take my first flight until I was about 20. That would have been in 1993. Back then, they still served meals.

@SaltyMommaC I lived in Australia in early 90s. Their secondary school curricula blew me away with its richness and high-standards. Comparitable to high level US liberal arts colleges.

"My Dad only had an 8th grade education." In todays educational climate, I think about this a lot. 8th graders in the 1950s were taught far more than graduates (in many districts) are today. In my generation, most of us (in my school) were in Algebra in 7th Grade. (NOTE: This was pre-DOE!) The below image is a page from a "one-classroom" math textbook. 2nd graders next to 8th graders, learning the same things. We have GOT to get education back on track or we will end up with a 4th Grade workforce.

@palan57 He claims vouchers are budget busters, but that's false. It's the teacher's pension system driving tax increases. At this point, many states only hope is a federal bailout of their pension follies.

@JoshDenny High definition TV should have exploded the number of viewers of the NHL with a clean look on ice. Instead the league went for ad dollars and junked up the visuals with ads on ice, on boards, uniforms, helmets. White space matters.

Starting to think the biggest barrier to growing the sport of hockey isn’t the on ice product. It’s the fuckface, low IQ fans that think they’re the gatekeepers of the sport.

@rockmom @annakhachiyan And a courageous writer. A journalist who is gay writing for a newspaper in the gayest city in the USA, and here he is calling out the gay community for prioritizing ideology over the lives of their fellow gays.

When I was coming of age as a junior f@g hag in suburban New Jersey I was obsessed with AIDS and consumed every piece of media I could get my hands on about it. At the time — and probably still to this day — the common refrain was that Reagan was personally responsible for the deaths of thousands of gay men by refusing to do anything about the epidemic. One of my most “mind blown” moments was learning about author and playwright turned activist Larry Kramer and how he was pilloried by his own community when he said wait a minute boys maybe pump the breaks on the gay sex until we can get to the bottom of what’s going on. Larry, who ended up getting HIV himself, was the pinnacle of the loud annoying gay Jewish liberal activist with a messiah complex type but I’ve always had such a soft spot for him.

A common normie folk belief is that AIDS was ignored by The Establishment out of homophobia. The opposite is true; AIDS became the most researched disease in human history within a few years, and gay orgs strenuously fought measures that might have stopped it.

Search is full of ads and wrong answers. Every other email is an ad. Prime Video charges you and shows ads. Paramount? Ads. Peacock? YouTube? Hulu? Ads followed by more ads. Netflix full of ads. Meta and X, every other thing is an ad. Pinterest is nothing but ads. AI is in everything. AI finishes sentences incorrectly and won’t stop. AI reads your email and search history to target you with more ads. Every time you open an app or visit a site there’s an update making it worse. In a hurry? First, click here to agree to terms you don’t have time to read and must accept. You need an account to do that. Change your temporary password. Enter your 2FA code. Check your email and enter that code. Now use a passkey. Your password is too simple to remember. Change it. No, not like that. Now log on. Enter your 2FA code. Check your email for a code… Welcome back! We’ve updated our terms of service and privacy policy (you have none). Subscribe to the site. Subscribe to Netflix. Subscribe to toilet paper. Subscribe to these groceries. Pay a membership fee for the right to subscribe then tip your driver who delivers the subscriptions your membership lets you subscribe to. Time to work? We’ve got to update your laptop and will slow down everything you do until you agree to update. But first, click here to agree. Update installed — your laptop’s broken now. It doesn’t matter, since your boss just replaced you with AI. Go to your phone to complain on social media. Wait, your phone needs an update so we can add more AI. Click here. Oh sorry, your phone can’t handle this update. Now it’s useless. Go get the newest phone. Here’s a text from a friend, an email, a voice mail they left three days ago but you didn’t see until now because of sync problems with the cloud. It’s their GoFundMe. Their MLM. Their Patreon. Never mind, you didn’t respond to their text within 9 minutes and now you’re no longer friends. They blocked you. Make new friends. Download this app to find people in your area. In your neighborhood. On your street. Two doors down from you. Do you know this person yet, we think you’d get along. You need an account to use this app. That username is taken. Enter a password. Not that one, you used it on another site. You need to be connected to WiFi to download the app. Allow the app to connect to other devices on your network. Allow the app to access your contacts, know your precise location, store your credit card details. Oops, sorry, we got hacked now all that info is available on the web. There’s a class action suit. You can join. It’ll take a decade to get your $3.73 share of the ten billion settlement. We’ll send it via PayPal or deposit it to your bank, just tell us those details. Oh no, another hack. That info is circulating now, too. Here’s a spam call, a spam email, a spam text. Why are you angry? Why are you talking about getting rid of your phone? Why don’t you like AI, it lets us make all of this easier? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? This is progress. You’ll be left behind. Do you want to be left behind? Do you???

We need a strong Supreme Court that protects democratic institutions, upholds the rule of law, and safeguards individual rights. But this Court no longer operates as the framers envisioned, nor as it should. Here are six reforms that Congress can enact now: bit.ly/4dbN1qI

We've become desensitized by the constant circus and our standards keep on falling lower and lower, but it's wildly inappropriate for the Defense Secretary of the US to refer to his domestic political adversaries, while the country is at war, as America's "biggest adversary"
