The 2026 BC Assessments are now online. Some are up, some are down. Some are down a lot. Dunsmuir House, for which I launched a third-party appeal last year (the value tripled) came down 19%. There is a 50-page planning report going to Council Wednesday proposing many sensible changes to make projects financially viable. However, I disagree with a proposed reduction in the required percentage of 3-bedroom units from 10% to 5%. Fertility rates are dropping because of a shortage of affordable family sized units. If anything, I'd be seeking an increase in the percentage of 3-bedroom units, especially in below market units.
