I haven’t spoken up on the Whitecaps deal because I never thought the PNE was a viable site. I felt it was moot. Despite what the mayor says, no mass transit is being planned. It’s also a complicated site for a building that size from a geotechnical and engineering perspective. It’s a rich archaeological area, and getting power to the site isn’t simple either. The Whitecaps need something fast and accessible—this site is neither. But here’s another example of what happens when deals are done on public lands behind closed doors: a lack of scrutiny creates bad projects. It’s a very bad precedent.

Hey @kareemformayor I agree with your recent post that “Any decision between business and council regarding public lands should not be made behind closed doors. This decision should be made publicly.” Have you spoken up about the City’s secret negotiations with the Whitecaps?

I emailed media officials at 15 municipalities within Metro Vancouver to get the number of unbuilt housing units, below. Along the way I learned the number of govt. communications people who provide their pronouns: 9 (7 "she/her" / 2 "he/him") #vanpoli

The @VSB39 squandered MILLIONS that should have been spent on students by so badly handling this case. There was a much better approach, which they chose to ignore. Heads should roll. Parents should be outraged. I am. #vanpoli connectcre.ca/stories/beedie…

Metro Vancouver city councils have approved a whopping 132k housing units. But developers haven't started to build them. Much money can be made by monetizing such "entitlements" through a resale or flip. 1/2 #vanpoli #vanre #bcpoli vancouversun.com/opinion/column…

1. The fired @sd61 (Greater Victoria) school trustees got another big win in their court case against B.C. Ed Minister @lisabeare, who has been fighting against having to release documents regarding her decision to fire turn over police in schools. /2

I'm thrilled to see @fabulavancouver enter the #vanpoli race. She knows the city and its issues inside and out, is pragmatic and smart, and values the things that make our neighborhoods great to live in. We'd be lucky to have her representing us at city hall. ✅

For the public record. Screenshot 2:30 pm Mon March 9. Just 28 hours before crucial Vancouver 30-yr ODP Public Hearing. City has NOT posted correspondence for days. No one, not even City Council can see what others have written. The entire process lacks legitimacy. #vanpoli #VancouverODP

3/3 Quote of week: “I have no idea why the provincial gov. wants to be so involved in housing.... Haven’t they got enough on their plate? They should be building hospitals and tunnels, and letting the municipalities do what they do well on housing.” - Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley
