Happy to see the Nix Community "progressing". There is no drama There is drama, but not a big deal -> Drama is a good thing People against drama are actually the issue From the mouth of the biggest drama instigator, now SC member: discourse.nixos.org/t/is-nix-nixos…

me: cozy, enjoying the NixOS project meanwhile all of my updates from the NixOS discourse: "Stepping down from the Nix team" "A statement from members of the moderation team" "The SC prepared to lie to us, and what we can do about it [whistleblow]" aren't we all just here to enjoy software??

The windowrule config syntax has been completely overhauled in hyprland-git. Check the wiki for more info. @LundukeJournal Yeah, I mean isn’t Python already for everyone? Anyone with a computer can download and use it.

The Python Software Foundation is taking a decidedly DEI inspired approach to fundraising. “The [Python Software Foundation] doesn’t just support events, they support movements.” “Create a welcoming and inclusive space.” “Python is for EVERYONE.” That last one is fascinating, as it implies that other programming languages are NOT for everyone. This fundraising messaging follows Python’s rejection of $1.5 Million in US tax payer funding, which carried the requirement that Python not engage in discriminatory actions and policies. A requirement which Python was not willing to commit to.

@LundukeJournal @EFF Are there any good books about the growth and change of computers/home electronics/open source without all the political bullshit? I just got done watching the Valve Half-Life 1 documentary and need more.

The @EFF is hosting a book release event for “We will rise again”, a book of speculative fiction focused on “progressive social change” and “environmental activism”. The Electronic Frontier Foundation is moving further and further from anything even remotely computer related — now they seem focused, primarily, on promoting Leftist politics.

there was a thing today where there were experiments at uni and in one of them I was tasked with debugging a 20 line or so python algorithm within 10 mins I actually failed, the bug was a return True instead of return False on one of the lines on one hand, kinda embarrassing, on the other, it highlights my belief that software development has almost nothing to do with leetcode style questions / competitive programming. Also, a typo bug is a bitch as your brain naturally just skims over it. Well, mine did. The fact I was given a macbook where none of the keybinds worked (what the FUCK is going on there with those cmd / opt / ctrl keys genuinely) and where half the things were broken didn't help. The actually hilarious part is that their own bash scripts you were supposed to use for submitting the experiment didn't work and fixing those took me 30s, I fixed it so fast the guy organizing it asked me to show him what was wrong. Another highlight that when it comes to real problems I can actually solve them lmao

@HSVSphere Ubuntu just had an update that killed network drivers. They moved the drivers to an optional repo, linux-modules-extra, upon update to kernel 6.8/v22.04LTS Cannonical has 1000 devs on staff btw. When I find a "well managed distro" I'll let you know.

Congratulations Julien Malka on getting a seat on the SC. I think a good first item to tackle is to clarify the 15-50k EUR discrepancy with the "NixOS binary cache donation fund" that your college Ryan Lahfa helped orchestrate (and you helped broadcast on mastodon). It's really not acceptable for someone to claim things are for community resources. Only for the ~$40k of donations to be funneled to a personal account with no transparency or oversight. discourse.nixos.org/t/starknet-cry…
Jonathan Ringer@jonringer117

Julien, you defamed me by saying I was a "security threat" when I was attempting to get my commit bit back. A commit bit which was taken despite my thousands of hours and 18k+ contributions to the NixOS ecosystem. A commit bit which was taken despite me never violating the CoC or the Nix Core Values. My ban and removal as the 24.05 NixOS Release Manager came as such a shock that the moderation team felt obligated to post a 1400 word response to my ban. discourse.nixos.org/t/why-was-jon-… What were my sins? Applying to be a board observer. Objecting to discrimination based upon someone's sexual preferences/identity (which a moderator made into a thread) Posting an "everything is political" comment which was so badly taken out of context that the moderators later deleted my post. Everything I did for the community was to transition Nix from a "niche interesting technology" to a "mainstream powerhouse". However, I don't believe we share the same vision. I'm convinced you and orbiters want to keep the Nix community in a perpetual state of chaos so that you can justify any action to serve your political motivations. In the mentioned blog post of yours, you say "things are less dire than I feared". Who says this if they want the Nix community to thrive? But that's the thing, I don't think you have the well-being of the community at heart. I think you are using Nix as a platform to see your own political agenda. You, hexa/mweinelt, janik, @delroth, @piegames_de, @Ra1t0_Bezar1us, @joepie91, @samueldr, and other conspirators need to stop treating Nix as a social club that you can exclude people by bullying and moderation. I will commend you all and others on your ability to manipulate otherwise well-intentioned members in the community; being able to meet your goals wouldn't be possible without it. But your actions and the actions of others have done nothing but divide and tear at the fabric of what was once a healthy FOSS community. The real tragedy is that myself, Eelco (creator of Nix), the RFC 175 authors, the 2023-2024 foundation board and the 2025 SC members are all victims in your little political game of "see how much defamation and verbal abuse people can take until they break". Speaking only for myself, I struggled with depression for a long time after my ban, but I'm sure I'm not alone in that either. So what you're doing isn't victimless and even the community image has been tarnished. NixOS is now the FOSS face of "purge the nazis"/antifa language, biased moderation, and constant drama. Thanks to you and your cabal of deluded activists. If you feel like using me as ammunition for your little SC campaign, go for it. But I think the world sees through your facade of righteousness. I just hope that others don't become collateral for your political goals.

just found out that most people take eggs from the carton without much thought. I assumed everyone was removing them in a sequence that keeps the egg carton as evenly balanced as possible.

It appears that KDE’s Communication lead has spent quite a lot of time telling people that “Elon Musk is a full-fledged Nazi”. He doesn’t make these statements from a personal platform — he says this from his KDE accounts, on KDE platforms, and presents it as the official KDE position. A position which KDE has not disagreed with.

KDE (the Linux Desktop environment) says that they do not post to @X because: - @elonmusk “is a nazi” - X “censors non-nazis and promotes nazis” - “Most people who remain on X are clueless and have difficulty parsing written text, or are nazis” Because of those reasons, KDE says they “stopped posting and left.” This statement was made by an employee of KDE (Paul Brown, who has worked for KDE since 2017) in response to a question on the KDE mailing list. mail.kde.org/pipermail/kde-…
