I used to volunteer for St John Ambulance, a charity with its own fleet of vehicles providing volunteer first aid services across the country. It traces its origins back to an 11th-century hospital established in Jerusalem to care for sick and injured pilgrims. If their fleet had been attacked I do not think we would have the same number of people asking about the premise of the organisation rather than condemning the action itself.

No Jew in the UK has set fire to anything belonging to a Muslim person. No Jew has stabbed a Muslim person in the street. Yet Jews are murdered, their ambulances burning and there are marches against Jews regularly which the government do nothing about. There are actual Jew Hunts under cover of banning Israeli hummus. There are exhibitions showing Jews eating babies. There is at the same time terrifying “guidance” from government to make citizens stop criticising Islam in any way. It’s twisted. Evil.

Five years ago today, a teacher from Batley Grammar showed a class a caricature of the Prophet Mohammed. Within days, a hundred Islamists were protesting outside the school gates. Outrageously, the teacher was suspended. The headteacher, Gary Kibble, apologised ‘unequivocally’. It was an astonishing act of appeasement and cowardice. The teacher was then subjected to a campaign of abuse and intimidation, including incitement to violence against him and his family. His kids had to miss school for months. They slept on mattresses in temporary accommodation. An independent probe later cleared him of any wrongdoing whatsoever. Another report likewise found that the school, council and police all ‘totally and utterly failed’ him. Too late - his life was changed forever. Have lessons been learnt from this shameful episode? I fear exactly the same thing would happen today. In fact ‘advice’ has recently been reissued by Labour councils including the one covering Batley, that children’s drawings in art lessons may be seen as ‘idolatrous’ under sharia law. Teachers are even warned that dance lessons could cause parental concerns over ‘physical contact between males and females’. Extremism is being mainstreamed. A climate of threatening and intimidatory harassment is poisoning our institutions. It's antithetical to our democratic way of life. Most of our governing class are simply too spineless to take on Islamists. Look at when I highlighted the chronic failure of integration in parts of Birmingham. I was denounced. And then proven right by West Midlands Police’s admission that violent Islamists living couldn’t be prevented from attacking Jewish football fans. The Police lied and blamed the visiting supporters in an effort to pretend they still had authority in the city. And now look at the reaction of the Prime Minister and much of the media to criticisms of a segregated Iftar in Trafalgar Square. They branded critics racist too. This was despite the Prime Minister himself pulling out of an Iftar in 2021 organised by the very same man, Omar Salha, who arranged this one, apparently because of his Islamist links. We’ve been led by weak hypocrites, who cover up, rather than confront what’s happening. The country is sliding down a dark path as a result. But innocent men and women like the Batley teacher are the greatest victims of extremism, and too many seem intent to forget them. We must defend them and stand up for all those who speak out.

Liverpool Council Has a Myth-Busting Problem. The Myths Are Its Own Liverpool City Council has published official guidance informing residents that concern about migrants and violence against women is based on stereotypes, misinformation, and social media rumour. It tells them the strongest predictor of such violence is gender, not culture or nationality. It warns against judging communities. It pledges to ensure that "divisive stories no longer fuel hostility." It has committed a 10-year anti-racism strategy to the project of telling its own residents what they are and are not permitted to think. There is just one problem. The facts don't cooperate. The Ministry of Justice does not publish social media rumour. Its figures show foreign nationals imprisoned for sexual offences have reached a record high. Telegraph FOI analysis puts their arrest rate for sexual offences at 165 per 100,000, more than three times the rate for British citizens. Convictions rose 62 per cent in four years. These numbers did not come from a far-right website. They came from the government Liverpool Council serves under. The council's guidance says there is "no causal link" between asylum seeker populations and increased violence against women and girls, and that suggesting certain backgrounds correlate with higher risk "is not supported by evidence." But culture is not incidental to this question. It is central to it. Many of the men arriving on small boats come from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran, countries where the subordination of women is not a fringe attitude but a legal and social reality enforced by the state. In Afghanistan, women cannot leave their homes without a male guardian, cannot work, cannot be educated past primary school, and rape victims can be stoned to death for adultery. In Iran, women have been beaten, jailed and killed for removing the hijab. In Pakistan, hundreds of women are murdered annually in so-called honour killings, child marriage remains legally protected under religious pressure, and the conviction rate for rape stands at roughly 4 per cent. These are not the customs of a distant era. They are the operating conditions of the societies these men grew up in, enforced by law, by religion, and by community expectation. The Alexis Jay inquiry into Rotherham found that perpetrators regarded non-Muslim girls as legitimate targets, an attitude with identifiable cultural roots that officials refused to name. That refusal cost over a thousand girls their childhoods. Liverpool Council is now repeating it as policy. Cultural conditioning of that depth and that duration does not dissolve at Dover. To pretend otherwise is not tolerance. It is the same institutional cowardice that looked away before, repackaged as compassion. The council's guidance ignores the grooming gang inquiries, dismisses the Ministry of Justice figures, and pretends the Centre for Migration Control's analysis does not exist. It asserts that concern is stereotype, offers no evidence for that assertion, and commits public money to a decade-long campaign to correct the residents raising it. That is not myth-busting. That is the Rotherham instinct given a budget. The women and girls of Liverpool deserve better than a council more committed to managing their perceptions than protecting their safety. The first duty of any local authority is to its residents. Liverpool has decided its first duty is to the narrative. Lord Hermer's False Equivalence and the Week That Proved Timothy Right Lord Hermer, the Attorney General, is a Jewish man. It was also a dishonest one. And Hermer knows why. The Adhan declares there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger. That is a theological repudiation of every other faith, including Judaism. It is not private devotion made public. It is a declaration of exclusive religious truth projected into shared civic space. A Jewish prayer in public contains no equivalent assertion. The Nicene Creed begins I believe. The Adhan begins there is no god but. The distinction is not subtle. It is the entire argument. Hermer, as a trained lawyer and a Jewish man, understands it perfectly. He has chosen to ignore it because the government he serves needs the question closed rather than answered. British Muslims hold warmer views on Iran than on Saudi Arabia. They hold warmer views on China and Russia than the general public, despite both countries having histories of persecuting their own Muslim citizens. The UAE has restricted state funding for its citizens seeking to enrol at British universities over concerns they will be radicalised by Islamists on campuses. Arab Muslim states are alarmed by what is happening in British institutions. The British government is busy investigating the people who say the same thing. Hermer asked whether he as a Jewish man would be welcome praying in public. The answer is yes. The question nobody in government will answer is whether a Jewish man would be welcome leading a crowd in chants that repudiate Islam as false, in Trafalgar Square, with the full support of the Mayor of London and the applause of the Prime Minister. That asymmetry is the argument. It has been the argument all week. And the Attorney General, who knows exactly what it is, has chosen to answer a different one.
