A 35 year old man has been acquitted by a Mumbai special court after spending 12 long years in jail on a fabricated minor rape case. The entire case crumbled in court after an investigation unraveled critical flaws in the prosecution's narrative. The Age Lie: The original complaint was filed under the strict, non-bailable clauses of the POCSO Act, claiming the girl was an 11 year old minor. However, biological forensic tests and historical records ultimately proved she was actually a 21 year old adult when the alleged incident occurred. No Medical Proof: Physical medical examinations did not prove any signs of sexual assault. Examining doctors testified under oath that no signs of injuries caused by any kind of sexual assault had occurred. Inconsistent Statements: Massive contradictions were flagged between the victim's initial police statements and her court testimony. The Real Motive - The widowed mother eventually confessed during cross-examination that she had never witnessed any abuse. The judicial proceedings later proved that the mother, under the active influence and bad advice of local neighbors, had falsely accused the man to settle a long-standing residential dispute and force a property settlement. Another day, another story of a man who lost more than a decade of his life over a completely manufactured neighborhood grudge.

Her name was Swati Reddy. She was 27 years old. A nurse at a private hospital in Nagarkurnool, Telangana. She had been married to Sudhakar Reddy, a 32-year-old businessman, for three years. They had two children. She was also in a relationship with Rajesh Ajjakolu, a physiotherapist at the same hospital. The affair had started before her marriage and continued after. Together, they decided to kill Sudhakar and replace him with Rajesh. The plan was inspired by a 2014 Telugu thriller called Yevadu in which a character undergoes plastic surgery and takes on another man's identity. On the night of November 26 2017, Swati injected Sudhakar with anaesthesia while he slept. When he fell unconscious, she and Rajesh struck him on the head with an iron rod. They then burnt his body in a forest outside the town. Two days later, Swati poured acid on Rajesh's face. She then took him to a hospital and told Sudhakar's family that her husband had been attacked by unknown assailants with acid. He needed plastic surgery. His face would look different afterward. Sudhakar's parents rushed to the hospital. They believed it was their son. They sat by his bedside for days. They paid Rs 5 lakh in hospital bills. They prayed for his recovery. Then came the mutton soup. As is standard practice for burn patients, the hospital served a bowl of mutton soup. Rajesh refused it. Sudhakar's family was confused. Sudhakar had loved mutton soup his entire life. The family began testing him. They asked him to identify relatives by name. He could not. He stopped speaking and began writing responses on his palm. Sudhakar's brother filed a police complaint. Police questioned Swati. She confessed. Sudhakar's body was recovered from the forest where it had been burnt. His parents performed his last rites. Swati's parents performed her symbolic last rites too. They disowned her and said she was dead to them. Swati and Rajesh were arrested. Rajesh told police the entire plan was Swati's idea. She killed her husband, burned his body, poured acid on her lover's face, and had her in-laws pay for his hospital treatment while he pretended to be their son. A bowl of mutton soup ended the plan. I have invested in 3 Multi-Asset fund. I think I also know that it will be worth shifting from fund A to fund C. However, the call is should I do the switch while paying 12.5% EXIT LOAD (aka Capital Gains Tax). Ditto for any fund.

Some lessons hit harder than books 😲

A friend recently bought a Tata Punch EV for around ₹12 lakh. He paid ₹3 lakh upfront and financed ₹9 lakh, which means an EMI of roughly ₹19,000 a month for 5 years. He drives about 60 km every day, so monthly charging adds another ₹3,000-4,000. Insurance is about ₹1,500 a month, and routine maintenance is relatively low at around ₹500. Then there are the usual ownership expenses like occasional fast charging, home charger setup, tyres, 12V battery replacement, parking, and tolls. All put together, owning and running the car can mean a monthly outgo of around ₹25,000-27,000.
