@alissafosterr I don't use the term antisemitism anymore, I use anti-Jewish. There is always an idiot explaining that Semites includes Arabs and bla, bla, bla. Anti-Jewish is very clear and simple. With that said, yes, anti-Zionism is anti-Jewish and most of the anti-Israel sentiment is too.

@Rags0910 @Nick_Davidov People are leaving. We are leaving as soon as my son finishes high school in 2 years. Not because of this tax, but because of the incompetence and a fix, if it ever starts, will take years. Love the weather, but people in CA suck.

California will be just fine without you and others threatening to leave. Don’t get me wrong it’s a very bad tax proposal but stop the performative bullshit already. People with money aren’t leaving CA in droves and the ones that do, means more for us that stay. There are too many people here anyway

I love California, but If the CA wealth tax passes I’m likely to leave. I’m not anywhere close to a billionaire but none of the taxes our companies or family pays would go to support this lunacy. I think I won’t be alone. Bankruptcy and austerity might actually be better for California in long term even though it will hurt a lot of people not deserving this in the short term. People who turn on their cars praying not to see a check engine light. While bureaucrats throw billions of public money around on waste, fraud, and destroying the markets.

@PassNoPass1 @RichardGrenell I think that’s their plan. Force longtime home owners to sell to pay the tax, then announce “look we made housing more affordable AND got tax revenue”. Billionaires were never the plan

@LA_Mngr_CarylF @Nick_Davidov This is basically a lie. It is calculating the retail tax, which we are clearly not talking about here. In California poor people are highly subsidized, rent, electric, phones.

Following the antisemitic stabbing of two Jewish people on the streets of Golders Green this morning, words of condemnation are no longer sufficient. This must be a moment that demands meaningful action from every institution, every community, every leader, and every decent person in our country. This is a hatred that we must face down together.

Dear Irish people, Alas, there are giant chock-fulls of antisemitism in your culture. Deep, dark and constantly bubbling to the surface whenever you feel the need to respond emotionally to the murder of Jews. It's especially fun to watch you rage about "waking up" to how Israeli crimes are causing the massive spike in murderous attacks on Jews currently underway in Britain. Here's a funny little data point, an alternative hypothesis, dear Irish person: There's lots of deep-seated antisemitism among British Muslims too. Really. This has been making the rounds lately: In a 2016 survey, just 4% of British Muslims believed Al Qaeda carried out 9/11. About twice as many, 7%, said "the Jews." In London, 11% of Muslims (that's over 100,000 Londoners) blamed the Jews for 9/11. (policyexchange.org.uk/wp-content/upl…) Crazy, right? Crazier still that I can't seem to find more up-to-date numbers, as though no one wanted to ask these questions in the years that followed. But some have dared to ask other questions. (henryjacksonsociety.org/publications/b…) Do Jews control the global banking system? 34% of British Muslims say yes. Do the bastards have too much influence in politics? 33% say yes. Are they loyal to Britain? 44% of British Muslims say they're more loyal to Israel. If they attend a mosque regularly, that rises to 55%. If they attended a university, it's 47%. Yes, at those fine, fine British universities, a young Muslim Briton will learn to think even more suspiciously of Jews than they did before. As an aside: The cure, the poll suggests, is for Muslim Britons to get out of the community a bit. The more non-Muslim friends they have, the less likely they are to think conspiratorially about Jews. What does that tell us about the conversation about Jews within Muslim British communities? Maybe this is what the venerable Mehdi Hasan meant when he once said that antisemitism was the British Muslim community's "dirty little secret." And another aside: I know that at this point you want me to add the caveat that most Muslims are decent, hardworking folks. I won't do that, not when Jewish blood is being spilled on Britain's streets. The reality of British-Muslim bigotry is too fundamental to soften with irrelevant pandering. If these bigotry figures were found among the British public generally, the story wouldn't be how some Britons aren't bigoted, but how so many are. So no, no distractions. Not when Jews can't meet and pray in safety in modern Britain. It's long past time to drag the problem kicking and screaming into the light. But wait, dear Irish person, that bigotry isn't unique to British Muslims. It's far worse, in fact, in most Muslim societies outside Britain. Antisemitic beliefs (not anti-Israel or anti-Zionist, but Protocols-style Nazi-borrowed "Jews control the world" antisemitism) are held by majorities in most Muslim nations. A 100-nation survey in 2014 found an 82.5% average among the 16 Arab states surveyed and 69% among Turks. (timesofisrael.com/hating-the-jew…) In 2008, Pew found negative views of Jews among 76% of Pakistanis and 66% of Indonesians. (pewresearch.org/global/wp-cont…) And yes, I realize some of these figures are old. It's surprisingly hard to find up-to-date figures for Muslim populations. I can't imagine why. So to recap, a British Muslim population where double-digit percentages are radicalized against Jews -- and whose views correlate with vast majorities in the Muslim world generally -- has produced from among its ranks a constant spate of violent attacks on Jews. And this sweet little Irish non-psychopath (his words, not mine) wants us all to "wake up" to how Israel caused it. Why does it always seem to be Irish people on my feed explaining that Muslim violence against Jews is merely a function of the evils of Israel -- and not of massive, widespread, conspiratorial antisemitism throughout the lands of Islam, including in places where Jews literally cannot live today. Why do they have this need to shift the blame, and thus to clear more cultural space for more violence? So I have a suggestion -- a modest proposal, if you will -- dear antisemitic Irishman who can't control his urge to explain why murders of Jews are the fault of other Jews. I think I've found a way for you to justify this line of reasoning without outing yourself as a bigot. Just do it with Muslims. Then no matter how much we complain, we won't be able to argue you're singling out the Jews. Go ahead and blame anti-Muslim feelings, rhetoric and even (though there's far less of it in the West than the anti-Jewish kind) violence on all the wars, genocides and general brutalities and inequalities of the Muslim world. I know you don't hear about those much. Your feed is pretty focused on only one category of perpetrator, and the 85,000 children who starved to death in Yemen didn't clear that bar. But let's not focus on that. Remember: This is about clearing the table so you can go after Jews guilt-free. So after a racist attack on a Muslim community somewhere, be sure to tell your local Muslim community to shape up, to distance itself publicly from the crimes perpetrated by Muslims in Islam's name, or really, when you think about it, how could they expect anything else? If, as we Jews suspect, even a self-righteous bigot like Tadhg Hickey understands that would be the end of his career and most of his friendships, if blaming violence against Muslims on the crimes of other Muslims is obvious glaring bigotry, irrespective of how Muslims behave elsewhere in the Muslim world -- and yes, even when your local Muslims hold similar political or religious views and even share many of the bigotries of those misbehaving Muslim societies -- if not even the multiple actual genocides currently or recently occurring within Islam could possibly justify blaming violence against your local Muslim community on Muslims themselves, then even you, even you, will have trouble pretending you're anything more than a bunch of lowlife bigots thrilling to the same ol' righteous bloodlust against the Jews. You barely have any Jews, dear Ireland. How do you still manage to obsess about them like this?
Heidi Bachram@HeidiBachram

Irish comedian Tadhg Hickey goes on a rant blaming the “only Jewish State” for the stabbing in London today. He says the “whole population” of Israel is genocidal as seeming justification for the attacks. He claims he’s not a psychopath. From what he said I’m not so sure.

People will like you will deceive and say “Intifada” just translates to “uprising” That’s out of context IN context, when it comes to Israel / Palestine: The Palestinian Intifadas saw bus bombs, ball bearing bombs, bombs in restaurants and as much innocent Jews murdered as possible. Here is just a small taste of the second Palestinian intifada 👇🏽 This is what Intifada means IN context

There's nothing quite like the arrogance of a Westerner who thinks "intifada" only means one thing -- and conveniently, it's the thing that most validates their politics and prejudices. Intifada is a complex term, yes, but it nevertheless usually, when used in Arabic, refers to violence. I don't mind the ignorance. It's the pairing with self-righteousness that makes it all so annoying. Jewish blood is spilled, and their response is to engage in a delicate sussing out of the subtlest, most elitist, least actually relevant on the ground meanings of "intifada."
Katie Halper@kthalps

@jk_rowling @zarahsultana Admitting you don’t know what intifada means but saying “at least I know what useful idiot means” is not the own you think it is.

This was footage from October 7. It was one of the few pieces of footage released publicly where Hamas jihadists were filmed cutting the heads off of dead Israelis. CNN were so repulsed by the footage that they couldn’t even air the whole thing. This is what Islam is. Beheadings aren’t some new phenomenon. They have been doing this for centuries. To Jews. To Christians. To Hindus. In this case, one Hamas terrorist alone went back to Gaza with several heads he cut off, and kept them as trophies. So tell me, please, how do you negotiate with such people? How?

Two weeks ago, an IDF soldier desecrated a statue of Jesus. Within 48 hours, the political establishment of Israel condemned it, and jailed the soldier. There were hundreds of thousands of posts. Today, 29 Christians were massacred by Islamists in Nigeria. Not a word. Weird.

Another short answer, Bianca: The Middle East has some 600 million Muslims, almost all of them pledging to annihilate the Jewish State Israel. Israel has eight million Jews, none of them pledging to destroy any country. Israel's nukes are ok. Other Mideast countries are not.
