Before Mina Kimes was one of ESPN’s most prominent NFL analysts, she was a studious kid who aced tests, devoured books and won trophies for spelling. Kimes will co-host the Bee this week with longtime spelling broadcaster Paul Loeffler. wapo.st/49nZbdU

Greg Sankey on the Protect College Sports Act: "I think there was a reference to conferences that had current fiscal year revenue over $1 billion have certain limitations. My knowledge is there only only two of those, but I've not read the bill so I can't go very deep. That'll be a conversation for another day."

Greg Sankey on Arkansas' complaints: "That's one of our points of authority that's given to our broadcast partner. The squeeze on the West Coast game, we don't have to do what other colleague conferences do by comparison, then the squeeze with an early kickoff is not something that I'm thrilled about either, but we do delegate that authority as part of our TV contracts." x.com/HunterYurachek…

Q: Do you feel at this point, a couple of years into the ESPN deal, like this deal might be undervalued relative to what you guys are delivering? Greg Sankey: Yes "Big picture, everybody would say they're undervalued. I think ESPN has continued to work with us and Disney and Jimmy (Pitaro) and his team in a healthy kind of way. Kickoff times aside, relationally we've continued to make progress. Would you like more in this environment? Do I think we're overdelivering? Sure, but I'd much rather be overdelivering than underdelivering. That's part of the message with our football coaches today, with our athletics directors yesterday, and even with our presidents and chancellors, is the importance of us to continue to perform at a high level."

Should the federal government have a say when places can fire, hire, and interview football coaches? Greg Sankey: "That's been asked of me. I've kind of just stood on the sidelines on that one. We obviously had a lot of turnover in football, and our presidents and chancellors room in the aftermath, it was 'we have to have a more systematic way for transition of coaching roles' and it was particularly focused on football, which I understand is in the new legislation." "If that's something that helps from an orderliness standpoint, that could be it seems healthy." @AndyStaples goes: "when you ask the federal government for help..." Sankey interjects: "You never know where it goes."

Greg Sankey is asked why he thinks the Big 10 has moved past the SEC using national championships and H2H playoff record as metrics. He cites close games, including Texas' loss to Ohio State in the 2025 Cotton Bowl. "Last year, you look at the Texas-Ohio State game. Texas scores, there's a screen play that breaks the game open. You go to possessions in the red zone, really close. There's a turnover." He also cites other games where the SEC team has blown out opponents from other Autonomy conferences. Says also "we saw metrics out of the College Football Playoff presentation where we're no doubt the strongest league." "You're going to lose games when it's close and competitive like that."
