One patient asked me for ayurvedic medicines for diabetes. I very honestly told her I haven't studied ayurveda, I cannot prescribe ayurvedic medicines. The very next patient showed their prescription given by a BAMS doctor of all a bhelpuri of verious oral hypoglycemics, statin, saroglitazar, absolutely unindicated dual antiplatelets and what not but NOT ONE ayurvedic medicine prescribed in the whole story 🥲

I haven't mentioned it before but the last month or so has been extremely stressful for me. It started when my doctor ordered a routine cardiac calcium CT. Those numbers were good (my total cholesterol is only 110) but the scan found a nodule in my lung. Another scan was ordered to evaluate it and that scan found a number of "masses" in my thyroid. An ultrasound exam found it concerning enough to biopsy and a PET scan was ordered to determine if I had any rapidly dividing cells indicative of cancer. Many new grey hairs later I have the results. The PET scan was negative and this morning's biopsy results confirmed no cancer at this time. Meeting with my ENT Friday to discuss treatment options but feeling a massive relief rn.

I think it is important to argue based on facts and law. @viditchess cannot take the emotional nor the patriotism route to claim something that is a falsehood. They are NOT doctors. I admire him for his chess prodigy but doesn’t give him a free pass to push falsehoods. There is no profession called a migraine specialist. Physiotherapists are not doctors. You can be a physiotherapist by doing a BSc course or even a diploma. The less I speak about Cosmetology, it will spare Vidit some heartburn. @theliverdoc, is factually and legally right. The chess exploits doesn’t make Vidit right. And this thing of serving the nation must stop. Vidit took up Chess not to serve the nation. It is a profession. Much like the soldier at the border or an honest bureaucrat in a government office or a honest tax paying coder in a tech company. Nothing more.

Just want to end with this, because tomorrow is a brand new day and there are bigger matters to move on to and greater things to do. In India, Speaking facts = Rude Speaking truth = Arrogant Being rational = Unprofessional Being logical = Defaming Breaking myths = Anti national Disrupting dogmas = Bad character The same people who are shouting that I bullied a chess player's family by calling out their professions as non clinical/ quackery (a fact) are the same ones bullying my family by calling me an organ trafficker's son and dragging my parents into it, based on a baseless report written years ago by a right wing magazine. I was still a medical student then and never worked in the hospital. This allegation and accusation was never proven and was stayed by The High Court of Kerala. This part is conveniently ignored by my bullies: livelaw.in/high-court/ker… The person (a jobless retired doctor) who made that allegation was served a show cause notice for promoting propaganda against organ donation in Kerala by the DME. He has since stopped maligning and defaming the transplant medical community. This part is also conveniently ignored by my bullies: onmanorama.com/news/kerala/20… I understand this is all part of the game that I did not bargain for, but I expect. Stakeholders who will get affected by my truth telling will come in various shapes and sizes to denigrate me and beat me down. Every attempt at breaking myths and disrupting dogmatic views comes at great cost and I am ok in dealing with it. Because no other doctor would. I give back as good as I get. Call me an organ trafficker's son, abuse my family, harass me all you want. Your allegations are farts in the wind tunnel and my words will stand. And I will continue my science communications, correcting health misinformation and educating people on developing critical thinking skills...and fight pseudoscience and unscientific practices plaguing this country, to help us all make progress, because unlike you, I love my country.

Vidit was not giving a lecture on science. He shared a family picture. And, got bullied for it. Imagine: you sharing a family photo. And, random dudes with influence start schooling you on your parent's/family's profession. And, discrediting their entire professional existence. How would you feel? Of course you would come out and defend your family. Anyone would. As far as the science behind Ayurveda or whatever it is: I am not arguing against the doc. He is entitled to his views. And, maybe he is right. I don't know. But, one could make their opinions known, without being an ass to someone's family. Being an accomplished professional. And, being a decent human should NOT be mutually exclusive.
TheLiverDoc™@theliverdoc

Hello, Vidit. I am not a fan of chess, but you are an important person for our country and I did not mean to offend your family. I am sure they are good people. I was stating plain facts from a professional standpoint and I do not mince my words. You may call that ego or whatever, to console yourself, no problem. Your statement on Doctors Day claiming an Ayurveda practitioner, Homeopath, Cosmetologist and a Physiotherapist were doctors is wrong and I stand by my words. Doctors' Day in India marks both the birth and death anniversary of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, one of India's most revered physicians and a key figure in shaping the healthcare system. Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Cosmetology or Physiotherapy are not realistic clinical medicine or and their practitioners are not clinical physicians. Physiotherapy is a legit branch of healthcare (adjunct to clinical medicine), but the rest are just plain sham - especially Homeopathy, which is also known as N*zi Medicine because H*tler tried to integrate it with conventional medicine at the time. You got all worked up and started personally attacking me because you were ignorant of this fact. I do not need to keep an ego towards a chess GM or his family. You don't make me insecure and your family is of no concern to me from a professional standpoint. But what you claim them to be - has major public health consequence, because someone of your stature, being ignorant about science and health affects public perception of realistic healthcare and pseudoscientific practices. Your statements normalize pseudoscience and primitive therapies as healthcare practices when they are not. They are alternative medicine. And alternative medicine is medicine that is not proven to work. Just like there is no alternative chemistry, alternative physics or alternative mathematics, alternative medicine is also not medicine. And its practitioners are not doctors. I am a certified internist with a doctorate in hepatology and liver transplant medicine with 260 peer reviewed scientific publications, 4400 citations and h-index of 30 (just for your information). You don't know me and how useful I am to my patients and their families. I suggest you do a bit of homework before throwing such childish tantrums. I am staying in my lane and always have. Calling out medical misinformation is what I do apart from being a full-time doctor. I suggest you stay in your lane and discuss more on chess. Sorry for the checkmate. And for a change, talk about chess and try being useful. All the best for your future matches.

I made a simple post out of gratitude. I chose silence at first, because not every conversation deserves a response. But when it turned into mocking my family, I stepped in. If that means stepping out of my lane, so be it. You and trolls like you don’t get to decide who’s a doctor. You have no authority to define others lives or dismiss their work. I’ve said my part. Now, back to what actually matters. No time for noise.
