And now the Gulf states are getting a taste of what Ukraine has been suffering: shaheeds clattering into high rise buildings. The pressure on the US to stop will be intense. The big worry has to be that you can't do regime change without boots on the ground. And there are no boots. So the US has just given the Gulf a nasty shock, driven up the price of oil, which helps Putin, but not achieved a substantial victory over Iran. The US can assassinate Iran's leaders but that doesn't cut the mustard. Iran has plenty more. So this is stupid.

Democracies should not start wars. Iranian-made Shaheed drones have clattered towards me in Kyiv so my contempt for the regime of the Ayatollahs is clear. But I fear that Netanyahu, like Putin, needs endless wars to stop him being ousted from power and that Israel is dragging the USA into a foolish conflict. And one which the United Kingdom should have no part of. But, to repeat, democracies should not start wars.
