Today we celebrate #BurnsNight 🥃 Did you know Scotland's National Bard, Robert Burns, has deep-rooted connections to East Lothian? His brother Gilbert Burns, his mother Agnes Burns, and his sister Annabella Burns all lived in the quaint village of Bolton, situated just outside Haddington. The family's final resting place is in Bolton Parish Churchyard. Visitors can find commemorative landmarks in the region, close to Bolton: 🔹The Grant Braes Monument / Burn's Mother's Well This marks the site where Robert Burns' mother, Agnes Brown Burns, lived and where the poet spent some of childhood years, with the monument itself often appearing as a stone marker or cairn, a significant historical spot linked to Scotland's national poet. Burns' mother lived with her son Gilbert after he took the job of a farm-worker on the Lennoxlove estate. It was at this well that Agnes collected water for the family. 🔹Robert Burns Memorial Shelter, Prestonpans Wander the coastal walk at Prestonpans and you might find a humble stone shelter. But look closer. This isn't just a resting spot; it's a vibrant tribute to Scotland's National Bard. The interior bursts with colour, thanks to a mural by artist Kate Hunter depicting the wild tale of Tam O'Shanter. It’s where art meets ancestry.
