Question out of pure curiosity for you who are part of a denomination. In no way throwing shade on denominations. Always been part of one. Would you say you are in total agreement with every doctrinal interpretation of your denomination? Not asking where you differ. Asking IF you differ &, if so, roughly how much. If your denomination is distinguishable by, for example, 10 tenets, do you line up 100%? Then answer 10/10. If, say, you mostly lineup, estimate how much. 7/10? 8/10?

@MadsDavies @OSacrumCorIesu getting a mortgage as a single person on a stipend is incredibly difficult and 4x my stipend doesn't buy very much that doesn't also need a lot of expensive work!

@OSacrumCorIesu The retirement housing issue is quite worrying I think. It's looking like up to 25% of clergy may need it. Though lots of ideas on the table about aiding home ownership etc.

Archdeacon of London told Synod that matters of finance were about a bigger question: do clergy enter "a lifetime of membership and participation in an organisation into which you give all sorts of things and from which you then receive a cradle to grave kind of care"...

@Rgt71Robert The church commissioners encouraging us to plan early for retirement is entirely useless when there is no money to plan with. As a single person on a stipend with no house already, l’m fairly stuffed in terms of retirement

“MORE clergy may need help with retirement housing than previously forecast, the Pensions Board has concluded, after a new survey found that 69 per cent of respondents believed it unlikely that they would own a property on retirement.” Many disturbing figures. In this report: 1) that 50% of clergy find stipends not sufficient or just about sufficient to live on is difficult in itself 2) but add to that that this means that saving enough for a deposit to buy a house if you have been in ministry for almost your entire life & your partner is on not much more either is not very likely & 3) that the Pensions board feel the provision of increasing housing to meet demand is financially unsustainable & want to promote the buying of houses & home ownership by clergy in order to offset costs…… This all puts us in the Church of England in quite a morally problematic situation. This all relates to other issues that we as a church wish to address & in fact undermine those commitments: 1) increasing vocations from the young 2) increasing vocations from those in ‘working class’ communities, 3) this also relates to a much larger extent than predominantly white community to the issue of increasing vocation among GMH people churchtimes.co.uk/articles/2024/…

Just to share, as many have on this account before. I’ve struggled with my mental health for a long time, & been on antidepressants most of my adult life. Churches haven’t always understood depression in my experience. Keener to speak than to listen. One response doesn’t fit all.

@changingworship This is my dystopian nightmare- especially as single person, with probably no roof of my own when I retire. It’s all very well to hold these opinions until you, yourself, become the vulnerable person who is a ‘burden’

The Church of England needs to work out how to fix the issue of every member of staff starting every conversation with “I’m doing two full time jobs and failing at both of them”.

@lydimoo I nearly lost it this morning and have decided that, for my own mental health, I will be off next year

I think this is the year that I’ve felt the most ok with Mothering Sunday, with belonging in myself and being ok enough to sit with my grief and my pain. This is due to the support of amazing friends. And due to challenging myself to do a Mother’s Day runaways service. Blessings.

@lydimoo I cannot tell you how much I hate it but I feel as if it’s such a juggernaut of tradition and expectation that I have no idea how to turn it around. Plus, not being a parent, i’m in danger of being accused of sour grapes

So many strong opinions expressed about my asking people to think about why we hand out flowers in church on Mothering Sunday. So many angry voices. I’m so tired.
