What a pleasure it was to speak at the @stevensonkdp 2024 Fall Inductions. I’m honored to have been part of this special occasion for all of the new inductees, and of course it was wonderful getting to be back with my KDP family 💜 @stevenson_edu

Great start to our PD today diving into equity. Forever going to think of my course with @AmberCook_ at @stevenson_edu where it was all things equity and courageous conversations. I was certainly set up for success!

And just like that, my first year is in the books! It’s still all so surreal but wow is my heart so full. My first ever class family will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m so proud of the teacher I’ve become because of them 💗

Sometime you just need to take phonics outside! ☀️🖍️ We practiced dictation with chalk and could not have had more fun!

I’m here to witness mathematical brilliance and the brilliance that each human shares with me. They may not know their own brilliance but it is there. It is up to us to see and lift up and champion. What if it’s all we see? 💜

Love getting to start this PD day diving into best practices when teaching word problems! So crucial to recognize the ineffective harmful ways keywords and tips/tricks deny students the ability to develop their reasoning, sense making, and analytical skills. @NCTM @ksquaredmath1

Q11: They said… “You have good teaching skills like in math you’re good at explaining it.” “You feel confident that we can do anything together.” “You’re open-minded and take all of our ideas and combine them.” “You love mistakes!” Please share your teaching math strengths!

A10 I wonder if the teacher’s strength is her trust and belief in her students? #elemmathchat

Q10: Finally, I asked the second graders to name their teacher’s strengths. Before we do the big reveal, make predictions based on the lesson and student work! #elemmathchat

A9 Are we sure this is second grade?! So blown away in their ability to not only recognize their own strengths but then to also say how they put those strengths to use. Wowza! #Elemmathchat

@MNmMath @bkobett Exactly my reaction!!!! What incredible strengths in communication! They’re naming SEVERAL of their strengths. Holy moly! Love their self awareness. Definitely lifelong mathematicians, which isn’t that the goal anyway haha

@bkobett A5 This is often so tricky for us to consider how a smaller unit of measurement yields a greater measured amount. Getting kids to make that kind of generalization takes a bit of time. #elemmathchat

Q5: We asked: “Will there be more teeny tiny woman feet or Clifford paws?” “How will you figure out how many teeny tiny woman feet with only one unit?” “Are there other tools that could help you?” What ideas do you have? #elemmathchat
