You’re not going to get Champagne football with Mourinho, I think that’s pretty widely accepted. You will get someone who’s a proven winner, has a connection to the Club, will be able to attract top players, and won’t accept mediocrity in any aspect of the Club.

Keir Starmer is quietly turning into quite an impressive PM for an international global crisis. Calm, astute and strong when he needs to be. Not that he’ll get any praise for it in the media or on here of course, but he has shown real leadership in an extremely challenging situation.

@MsiDouglas His blind loyalty to players that simply aren’t good enough was always going to end his legacy, he hasn’t learned lessons from previous seasons or adapted tactics. Unfortunately he’s reached his ceiling, the club needs to be also ruthless to move to next level.

For three of the four halves of the Barcelona tie, #nufc were great. In the first half it actually looked on - classic Eddie Howe counter attacking display. The fourth was abject and painful though, the defending as bad as I can remember. End of the season is important - and Sunday huge for the club - but this squad needs surgery. Some difficult decisions probably need to be made, some ruthlessness required.

Chelsea were losing 2-0 at half time, their rookie manager made 3 proactive changes and they went on to win 3-2! Must be nice to have a manager with the balls to actually try and impact the game with his subs instead of bottling it and waiting until the games already gone.

Zero momentum all season - think you can see confidence is low in key moments. Doesn't help that fixture list is so unrelenting (issues can't be addressed on training ground atm) but Villa are in Europe too & flying. Lack of creativity in final third a big, big problem RN. One of Elanga's better performances when he came on I thought but no cutting edge. Gordon the only PL player that bangs on about his mentality to be the best, yet he can’t even do the basics for a winger, take man on and cross. He’s a shambles #nufc

Toon going stale with Howe, similar to what happened at his time at Bournemouth, something needs to change otherwise he will end up leaving on way or another. Players looks lost and doesn’t seem to be a plan against low block teams. Opposite to last season.

I'm going to call it. Newcastle United are not going to defend their Carabao Cup trophy at Wembley. When they played Arsenal last year they were clinical, took their chances and looked ruthless. They were wasteful in front of goal against City. Both Wissa and Woltemade failed on the big stage tonight #nufc

"So you look back to the Chelsea game, and for 45 minutes we were excellent, everything that we want to be. Today, for the second half, I think we were as good without the goals. Losing Burn until well into January at least is a huge blow for Newcastle. As it stands, only Livramento, Schar, Thiaw & Hall are available as a back four.
