@CanRau @SurrealDB I see! In SurrealDB the fastest link is a record link (direct pointer to a record) which is most similar to a JOIN and can also be used in a sort of graph-like fashion such as recursively: surrealdb.com/learn/tour/pag… Not sure about the internals compared to SQL though!

@mithridates @SurrealDB Thank you 🙏 great read 👌 Though I was referring to why graph relations/traversal can be faster than sql joins, more on a fundamental level. At least I read here & there that graph traversal can be faster than traditional joins. Aren't they all "just" pointers with indices?

@CanRau @SurrealDB Hi! We added a reference guide lately on that. Graph is mostly to have the table in between (metadata) as well as the nice query syntax, while record links have nothing in between and are basically just direct pointers to records. surrealdb.com/docs/surrealdb…

@SurrealDB I still struggle to understand what the underlying difference between a relational join & a graph db traversal is? Creating a graph relation is kinda creating a record in an automatic join table/index right? So why would they be faster?
