#OTD August 31, 1954, Hurricane Carol hit Rhode Island. Max wind speeds recorded on Block Island were 135 mph & the storm surge recorded in Narragansett Bay was over 14 ft, flooding Providence with 12 ft of water. Overall damage in RI totaled $200 million, & there were 17 deaths.

Climate Central’s ingenious Flood Rover was in Providence today, capturing street level images around India Point Park. These visuals will be merged with flood data to show how areas are affected by the weather we’re seeing. Keep an eye out for the final results in about a month!
